HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM - Meeting Minutes - 685 - 12-3-2001 - COMMISSIONER4GO MINUTE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS C ■ ■ WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA Minute No. 685 Washington, PA, December 3, 2001 A duly advertised special meeting of the Washington County Board of Commissioners was held at approximately 6:05 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2001, in the Public Meeting Room, first floor of the Courthouse Square Office Building, Washington, Pennsylvania, for the purpose of fixing the salaries of all County officials governed by County Code,16 P.S. §11011-10.1 as amended. Members being present were: Commissioners John P. Bevec, Diana L. Irey and J. Bracken Burns. Also being present: Cathi Kresh, Administrator/Chief Clerk; Linda Belcher, Administrative Assistant; Richard DiSalle, Solicitor; Larry Maggi, Sheriff; John Pettit, District Attorney; Francis King, Treasurer; Debbie Bardella, Recorder of Deeds; Phyllis Ranko Matheny, Prothonotary; Mike Namie, Deputy Controller; Judith Fisher, Jury Commissioner; Patty Ondash and Robert Fisher, interested citizens. Chairman Bevec called the meeting to order. Solicitor DiSalle was asked to read the following Resolution: WHEREAS, the County of Washington is a county of the Fourth Class in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and WHEREAS, the County Code,16 P.S. §11011-10.1, authorizes the Commissioners to increase salaries of County officers; and WHEREAS, the elected officials of Washington County have not received a salary increase since January of 1995; and WHEREAS, the County desires to set salary increases for all elected officials beginning with the year 2004, as permitted under the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of the County of Washington, Pennsylvania, as follows: Effective the first Monday of January 2006, the salaries of the Recorder of Deeds, Sheriff, Controller and Jury Commissioners of Washington County shall be increased by 9.273%. In addition, the salaries of the Recorder of Deeds, Sheriff, Controller and Jury Commissioners shall be increased 3% of the prior year's salary beginning the first Monday of January 2007 and each year thereafter. Effective the first Monday of January 2004, and each year thereafter, the salaries of all other elected officials of Washington County shall be increased by 3% of the prior year's salary; provided however, that said 3% annual increase shall not apply to the excess amounts paid to the Register of Wills/Clerk of the Orphans Court and to the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners pursuant to the County Code,16 P.S. §11011-11 and 11011-1. Comments: Ms. Fisher questioned the effect this salary increase would have on her retirement and social security benefits. Some discussion followed on this matter. Solicitor DiSalle noted that the increase for jury commissioner would not go into effect until January, 2006. Chairman Bevec entertained a motion to adopt the foregoing Resolution. Moved by Mr. Burns, seconded by Mrs. Irey, adopting the foregoing resolution. Roll call vote taken: Mr. Burns - Yes; Mrs. Irey - Yes; Mr. Bevec - Yes. Motion carried unanimously.
