DEPT. OF PARKS & RECREATION: Chief Clerk presented correspondence under date of September 30, 1971 from Michael George, Director, Department of Parks & Recreation requesting that the employment status of Charles Toth (park policeman) be changed from part-time to perma- nent, retroactive to May 1, 1971. Mr. Capano: We should just table this until the next meeting. Mr. Whalen: If you have three or more full-time police officers you automatically come under civil service and also the pension act is somewhat different. The current police pension act calls for a minimum of 50% salary pension. I believe, even though such a man was covered by our Washington County Employees' Retirement, our benefits under that plan would not reach that figure. Memo from County Solicitor Porter - dated September 29, 1971 - In my opinion those provisions of law which relate to police tenure and police civil service do not apply to county park police. Moved by Mr. Capano, seconded by Mr. Whalen, that the matter of a change in the employment status of Charles Toth (park policeman) be tabled until the next meeting.
