HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM - Meeting Minutes - 31 - 5-2-1960 - COMMISSIONER38 MINUTE BOOK BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA FRANCIS E. PETTIT, J. BLATrH CUMMINS, JOHN MAZZA, COMMISSIONERS Bethlehem Township., Washington County; have been examined by the County Commissioners and they agree that Washington County will not assume liability for any property damages resulting from the changing of the above named highway as contemplated by these Plans; or any damages arising out of any changes or alterations of drainage resulting from the construction or maintenance of this highway; or any damages resulting to any property holdings of any Public Utility Company; nor will the County assume any damages resulting to any coal or other minerals in and underlying the property affected by this improvement; but that Washington County will contribute the sum of Three Thousand ($3..000.00) Dollars, toward the payment of property damages due to the improve- ment of State Highway Route 62012. This contribution by Washington County is made with the understanding that payment will be due and payable in 1961 only upon certification from the Secretary of Highways that the sum of Three Thousand ($3..000.00) Dollars., has been expended by the Department of Highways for the settlement of property damages for the aforesaid improvement. - Francis E. Motion by Mr. Cummins, seconded by Mr. Mazza., that Alexia Jones('request for a leave of absence be granted. Mrs. Jones is entitled to a week's vacation pay,, would you please make a supplement 'voucher for her., this action to be effective May 1., 1960. Motion carried unanimously. There being no further business to come before the Board at this time, the meeting adjourned. PETTIT, J. 6LATCH CUMMINS, JOHN MAZZA, C0MMISSIGhLEAS 401 relative to the issue by the said County of a Note for One Hundred Thousand ($100,000.00) Dollars as a temporary loan, was presented, duly seconded and adopted by the said Board, to -wit: "WHEREAS, It has become necessary for said Board to borrow the sum of One Hundred Thousand ($100,000.00) Dol]a rs for the purpose of meeting current expenses for the year 1960, and to be payable out of taxes and other current revenue during the year, 1960; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners of the said County of Washington that for the purpose of providing funds for the payment of current expenses of the County, the proper officials of the said County are hereby authorized and directed to negotiate a temporary loan on such terms as may be agreed upon by them, payable out of taxes which have been levied and to be collected during the year 1960, and so much of said taxes as may be necessary to repay said loan, with interest, is hereby set aside and designated for that purpose, and issue a note therefore, payable August 8, 1960, with interest from date of said note at the rate of two and three fourth per cent (2 3/4%) per annum, free of all taxes levied by the Commonwealth of Penn - Sylvania, which said taxes the County of Washington assumes and agrees to pay, said note to be negotiated and issued as follows: PITTSBURGH NATIONAL BANK, WASHINGTON, PENNSYLVANIA...................................$100,000.00" Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Mr. Cummins, seconded by Mr. Mazza, that the following Proclamation (Radio Month - May, 1960) be adopted: PROCLAMATION RADIO MONTH MAY 1960 WHEREAS, Radio Station WJPA renders valuable service to Washington County families by making available to them in their homes uniformly fine entertain&iment and consistently accurate information; and WHEREAS, Our radio station WJPA continually proves to be a dependable communication link with our citizens on the move, serving as sentinel, adviser, and friendly traveling companion; and WHEREAS, Radio Station WJPA takes an active role in our County affairs, always ready to assist in the promotion of civic projects and to place their facilities at public disposal in time of crisis; and WHEREAS, Radio broadcasting station WJPA as a mass communication medium contributes to the economic, technological and cultural development of Washington County and occupies a vital position in the maintenance of our County's welfare and security; NOW, THEREFORE, WE, Commissioners of Washington County, Pennsylvania, do hereby proclaim the month of May to be Radio Month for Washington County, and do hereby salute the Washington Bvoad- casting Company for the outstanding service it has rendered to our citizens during the past 19 years. GIVEN under our hand and the Seal of WASHINGTON COUNTY, at the City of Washington, this 2nd day of MAY,, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and sib. Motion carried unanimously.
