NO. 275-A Office of the County,Commissioners
Wasbington. Pa., August 17, 1962
Board of County Commissioners met in special session at 11:00 a.m., for the purpose of
awarding bids for the general construction work for the barn and equipment storage building to be
located on County Property at the Washington County Rome and Hospital for Men, Arden, Washington
County, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present: Commissioners Pettit, Cummins
land Mazza. Also present being: County Solicitor Massock, J. G. Kassab, consultant to the Board
lof Commissioners, Mrs. Ullom, representative from Beall & Parkins, Registered Architects, Tohn
INicollella. Contractor, Charles E. Bradshaw, citizen and taxpayer and Reporters Crouse and Merdian.
Mr. Kassab recommended to the Commissioners against building of this type of a barn for
the present. He stated that present facilities with certain modifications can be facilitated at
much less cost to lhe County than building a new barn. This would be as profitable as possible to
the County. A lean-to barn should be installed against the present building heading south of a
full -type construction as it is going to house beef cattle. He further recommended the utilizini
iof the Arden Downs area for facilitating the storage of equipment during the winter months. Future
i
surveys should be made to see that beef cattle can be stored. Mr. Kassab stated that the barn
I
,building is well run. Needs few facilities. Straw should be stored at Arden Downs area in one
of the buildings. County should sell straw rather than storing large amounts of it. As far as
moving the County Home and using this land as an industrial site, Mr. Kassab stated that 20 acres,
is not enough involved and that it would cost two to three million dollars to replace. At the
present time there is no place for the people to be put. Years later this may be used for an
I
industrial site. Mr. Kassab stated that he sees no reason for this land to be used for an
I _
industrial site, as there are two other sites in the area not being used.
