BLATCH CUMMINS, JOHN MAZZA, COMMISSIONERS --------- THE FOREGOING MINUTE READ AND APPROVED: 1963 ATTEST:CHIEF CLERK CLERK NO. 369 Office of the County Commissioners Washington, Pa., October 11, 1963 Board of County Commissioners met in regular session with the following members being present: Commissioners Pettit, Cummins, and Mazza. Also present being County Solicitor Hormell, Chief Clerk Polaski, John Yuhas of the Engineers Office, Reporter Crouse and Mr. Bradshaw. Meeting called to order by Chairman of the Board, Francis E. Pettit. Motion by Mr. Cummins, seconded by Mr. Mazza, that payment be authorized in the amount of 1100.00 to cover expenses incurred by Douglas J. Bowman, County Superintendent of Schools, in attending the Annual Convention of Washington County School Directors to be held November 16, 1963; this amount being set up in the budget. Motion carried unanimously. Mr. Pettit brought to the Board's attention that a final ruling regarding the change of the polling place in the first ward, third precinct of Canonsburg Borough from its present location at the Greek Coffee House to the Presbyterian Mission School, will be given on Monday, October 14, 1963. No word has been received yet as to whether the Mission School is available. Motion by Mr. Mazza, seconded by Mr. Cummins, that the Board table any action on the awarding of a contract for the rental of a warehouse for surplus food storage until after the November election when the new Board of Commissioners will have an opportunity to participate in making a decision. Motion carried unanimously. Remarks by Mr. Pettit: There has been considerable controversy over the construction of a warehouse for the storage of surplus food. It is likely, in the near future, the Federal Government will have a new plan for handling surplus food and food storage will be needless. I believe that this contract or some other contract by Washington County to lease a building located in Washington in a more centrally located place will, without any question in my mind, mean a savings of approximately $20,000 to $30,000 annually to Washington County. Mr. Mazza brought to the attention of the Board that the Washington County Planning Commission passed a resolution recognizing the need for additional bed patient facilities at the County homes and endorses the plans of the County Commissioners to renew and renovate the County homes, urging that this be carried out with theutmost expediency. Remarks by Mr. Pettit: With the sum of approximately $12,000 to $15,000 we could make this space available; however, Beall & Parkins, Architects, estimated the cost to be approximately $100,000, in compliance with State regulations. It is impossible to undertake the renovation at this time; that this is a matter for the new Board of Commissioners to consider. Mr. Cummins asked if any monies whiche re due the County have been received
