Board of County Commissioners in regular session those present being Commissioners
Pettit, Lane and Mazza.
Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Pettit, that John C. Pettit, be appointed as
a temporary employee in the Tax Assessment Office, from December 15th to Decembeer 31, 1956
inclusive.
Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Pettit, that Farrell Jackson, Jr., be appointei
as a temporary employee of the Tax Assessment Office, from December 19th to December 31st, 1956
inclusive.
Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Pettit, that Barabara Klapkowski, be appointed
as a Clerk in the Tax Assessment Office, this action being effective December 17, 1956.
Motion carried unanimously.
Motion byMr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Pettit, that the following resolution on
Social Security be adopted:
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Social Security Act has been so amended by the Congress of the United
States as to permit political subdivisions of the several states to extend to their officers and
employes, previously excluded from coverage by reason of their menbership in a retirement system,
the benefits of Old Age and Survivors Insurance, and
WHEREAS, the 1955 Session of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsyl-
vania, in regular session met, has enacted a statute known as Act No. 662 which enables the
political subdivisions of the Conmonwealth of Pennsylvania to take all action necessary to
effectuate the coverage of their officers and employes under the Old Age and Survivors Insurance
System, and
WHEREAS, such action is contingent upon the result of a referendum required under
the provisions of Section 6.1 (a) of said Act No. 662, and
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners, the governing body of the County of Washing-
ton, pursuant to the provisions of said section of said act, did request a referendum be author-
ized by the Governor for the eligible members of the Washington County Employes Retirement System,
on the question whether services in positions covered by said retirement system should be excluded
from or included under an agreement to participate in the Old Age and Survivors Insurance Prograx,
and
WHEREAS, the Governor did authorize a referendum for such members of said retire-
ment system to be held under the supervision of an agency or individual designated by him, and
WHEREAS, said referendum was held in the County of Washington on the 18th day of
December, 1956, and
WHEREAS, the returns of said referndum, a copy of which is attached hereto, show
that a majority of the eligible members of said retirement system voted in the affirmative,
