Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Mazza, that Charles Hughes be appointed as a
Clerk in the Registration Office, this action being effective January 9, 1957.
Motion carried unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Board at this time, the meeting
adjourned.

Board of County Commissioners in special session met at 1:30 p.m., for the pur-
pose of opening bids for Contract No. 11, Grading, Drainage, Paving and Turfing, at the Washing-
ton County Airport. Those present at the meeting being Commissioners Pettit, Lane, Mazza,
Controller Elish, County Solicitor Docktor, Chief County Engineer Crumrine, District Engineer
of the Civil Aeronautics Administration Joseph W.-Mott and David 0. Johnson, Supervisor of

Airports for Michael Baker, Jr., Inc., consulting engineers for Washington County.
In accordance with the aforementioned advertisement, the following bids were
opened and read.

amount being: $ 20,000.00
2. Jefferson Coal and Coke Corporation, Burgettstown, Pennsylvania
Total amount of bid being: $291,072.83
Bid bond placed with Federal Insurance Company,
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
amount being: $ 17,500.00
3. Allegheny Contracting Industries Inc., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Mazza, that the bids of the three (3) lowest
bidders they being Jefferson Coal and Coke Corporation, S. P. Lightholder and Richard Construc-
tion Company be tabulated in detail and then the contract be awarded.
Motion carried unanimously.
After the three (3) lowest bids had been tabulated the following motion was made.
Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Mazza, that the Jefferson Coal and Coke
Corporation, Box 311, Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, be awarded the contract for Contract No. 1,
Grading, Drainage, Waving and Turfing at the Washington County Airport, they being the lowest
responsible bidder in the amount of $291,072.83 and subject to the approval of the Civil
Aeronautics Administration.
Motion carried unanimously and Controller Nlish and all other interested parties
in the awarding of the contract for the work on the Washington County Airport left the meeting
and the County Commissioners conducted the following regular business.
