PETTIT,W.J.LANE,JMHN.MAZZA,COMMISSIONERS Motion by Mr. Lane., seconded by Mr. Mazza, that the following Resolution be adopted. R E S'O L U T 1 ON WHEREAS., the Washington County Commissioners, recently received conclusive infor- mation of the prospective closing of the Vesta No. 4 Mine of the Jones and Laughlin Steel Company which will entail the loss of employment of approximately 790 citizens of our County; and WHEREAS, this mine has been the source of a major part of the rivers' districts income for more than a half century; and WHEREAS, the closing will leave one of the most populous communities in Washing- ton County without sufficient industry to support its population; and WHEREAS., it is the desire of the Board of Commissioners of Washington County to do everything possible to replace this loss of employment; THEREFORE, Be It Resolvedy that the Washington County Board of Commissioners in regular session; HEREBY., unanimously request immediate and adequate assistance in replacing this loss of employment by any appropriate action by the Federal Government and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; And the Commissioners wish to stress that the Washington County Industrial Development Organization is ready and willing to cooperate with any Federal or State Agency in' alleviating this possible unemployment; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Honorable United States Senators Edward Martin and Joseph Clark., the Honorable George M. Leader, Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Congressman Thomas E. Morgan, National Representative of this District. Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Mr. Lane., seconded by Mr. Mazza, that the Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, Francis E. Pettit, be authorized to execute the Project Applications in connection with the Federal Aid Airport Program. Motion carried. There being no further business to come before the Board at this time., the meting adjourned.
