BOARD 'OF' COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WASHINGTON COUNTY,' P'ENNSYLVANIA

Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Mazza, that the following resolution pertain-
ing to the coal mine fires burning in and about Carroll Township, Washington County, Pennsyl
be adopted:
RESOLUTION OF WASHINGTON COUNTY
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Board of County Commissioners of
Washington County, that highly dangerous coal mine fires are burning throughout the various
sections of Carroll Township, and adjoining communities in Washington County, and
WHEREAS, such fires are detrimental to the welfare, safety and general welfare of
the people of Carroll Township, and adjoining communities, and
WHEREAS, the cost of abatement of such fire is substantial and not within the
financial means of the local municipalities.

1. That an emergency condition exists.
2. That the board of County Commissioners of Washington County forward a copy of
this Resolution to the Honorable George M. Leader, Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,
and Joseph T. Kennedy, Secretary of Mines of the Commonwealth, and to the Chairman of the Carroll
Township Board of Supervisors, to request immediate aid and financial assistance for the abate-
ment and extinguishment of said coal mine fires in the vicinity of Carroll Township, Washington
County.
Ther being no further business to come before the Board at this time, the meeting
adjourned.

A joint meeting was held in Donora, Pennsylvania, between the County
of Westmoreland and the County Commissioners of Washington on May 7, 1958, and action was taken
on painting and repairing of the Donorar-Webster Bridge.
Those present at the meeting from Westmoreland County weres Commissioners Robert
A. Kilgore, `Jay Kromer, Smith McKee and Chief Engineer B. F. Hebrah; representing Washington
County were: Commissioners Francis E. Pettit, William J. Lane, John Mazza and Chief Engineer
H. B. Crumrine, also present was Burgess Albert Delsandro.
It was agreed by the joint boards of Commissioners that due to the unsafe condi-
tion of the Donora-Webster Bridge that official action be taken to expedite the necessary re-
pairs to place the structure in good condition.
Motion was made by Commissioner Lane, seconded by Commissioner Kilgore that the
construction company of Jay C. Speaker be hired to --do the necessary engineering work and prepare
