Washington, Pa., December 27, 1954
Board of County Commissioners in regular session, those present being Messrs.
Pettit, Lane and Mazza.
Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Mazza, that the following resolution in
to the coal situation in Cecil Township be adopted:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the United States Steel Corporation has made an express promise to co-
operate fully with the Citizens' Committee of Cecil Township in exploring ways and means to
reactive employment at its National Mine #3, located at Muse, Cecil Township, Washington County,
Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the County Commissioners of Washington County have received a copy of a
resolution wherein this Board was fervently urged to take the proper action in this emergency;
and
WHEREAS, this Board is vitally interested in the resumption of work at said Nati,
al Mine #3, in Cecil Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, and it is hereby resolved by the Board of County
Commissioners of Washington County, Pennsylvania:
(1) That it is the concensus of opinion of this Board to cooperate fully with
all others interested in the welfare of Ceil Township and particularly,ain the resumption and
reactivation of employment in the aforesaid mine.
(2) That the Honorable Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States,
the Honorable John S. Fine, the Govenor of Pennsylvania, the Honorable George M. Leader, the
Governor -elect of Pennsylvania, and Clifford Hood, the President of the United States Steel
Corporation be urged to take the proper action in this emergency.
(3) That a copy of this resolution be sent to each of the following:
a. The Honorable Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the
United States
b. The Honorable John S. Fine, the Governor of Pennsylvania
c. The Honorable George M. Leader, the Governor -elect of Pennsylvania
d. Clifford Hood, the President of the United States Steel Corporation
e. The Honorable James H. Duff, the United States Senator from Penn-
sylvania
f. The Honorable Edward Martin, the United States Senator from Penn-
sylvania
g. The Honorable Thomas E. Morgan, the Congressman from the twenty-
sixth Congressional District of Pennsylvania
h. John L. Lewis, the International President of the United Mine
Workers of America
i. John P. Busarella, the President of District #5 of the United Mine
Workers of America
J. Cecil Township Supervisors (Tony De Blasio, Maneric Altieri, Tony
Bartkus) - copy to be sent in care of Carmel M. Legory, Township
Secretary.

Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Mazza, that Charles F. Kline be re -appointed
as a member of the Washington County Authority to a full term of five years.
Motion carried unanimously.
There being no further business to come before the Board at this time, the meet-
ing adjourned.
