BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA
FRANCIS E. PETTIT, W. J. LANE, HENRY J. LOWSTUTER, COMMMSIONERS

Washington, Pa., January 5, 1948
Francis E. Pettit, W. J. Lane and Henry J. Lowstuter elected County Commissioners
of Washington County, Pennsylvania at the Municipal Election held on the first Tuesday after
the first Monday of November, 1947, met in the Office of the County Commissioners in the
Court House in the City of Washington, at 3 P. M., on Monday, January 5, 1948, being the
first Monday of January following the said Election, for the purpose of assuming their offices,
their respective bonds having been approved and filed with the County Controller, and the
oaths of office of the said County Commissioners subscribed to before the Court of Common
Pleas at 10 A. M., of the said Monday, January 5, 1948, and filed with the Prothonotary as
required by the Act of Assembly.
The Board of County Commissioners proceeded to organize upon motion by Mr. Lane,
seconded by Mr. Lowstuter, that Francis E. Pettit be elected Chairman of the Board of County
Commissioners.
Motion carried and Mr. Pettit declared elected Chairman.
The Organization then proceeded with Chairman Pettit in the Chair.
Motion by Mr. Pettit, seconded by Mr. Lowstuter, that W. J. Lane be elected
Secretary of the Board.
Motion carried and Mr. Lane declared elected Secretary.
Notion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Pettit, that John Bevec be appointed as Chief
Clerk to the County Commissioners, bond having been given in the amount of $1,000.00 as
required by the Act of Assembly.
Motion carried.
Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Pettit, that Genevieve Turpin be appointed as
Secretary to the Chief Clerk for the year 1948, covering the period from the first Monday in
January, 1948, to the first Monday in January, 1949, with proviso that she may be dismissed
upon thirty days' notice.
Motion carried.

The Organization of the Board of County Commissioners having been effected according
to Law, upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, the meeting was adjourned in order that
the Board might organize as the Washington County Institution District.
