LOWSTUTER, COMMISSIONERS Commissioners the necessary ballots and election supplies required for the conduct of the Primary Election to be held Tuesday, April 27, 1948. All bids must be received in the Office of the County Controller until 11:00 a.m., EST., Friday, February 27, 1948, and opened immediatelty thereafter in the Office of the County Commissioners. A certified check in the sum of amount fixed in the specifications as evidence that the bidder will accept same and carry out the conditions of the contract in case of award, and the right reserved to reject any or all bids. Motion carried. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned. N., on Friday, February 6, 190, for the purpose of organising a Soil Conservation Board with the following members present: Commissioners Pettit, Lane and Lowstuter. Representatives from various Associations were present in order to discuss the problems of the Washington County Farmers and the benefits of organizing a Soil Conservation Board in Washington County. Representatives attending the meeting were: Erwin F. Carl,(Washington County Pomona Grange), John C. Galley, (Federal Land Bank), Jay Nelan, (National Farm Loan Association of Washington), T. Scott Pease, (Washington County Artificial Breeding Cooperative), Gqr Smith, Washington County Farm Bureau), and Harry Cleaver, (Washington County Pomona Grange). A discussion was carried on among the Representatives and Commissioners Pettit, Lane and Lowstuter in regard to the advantages of organising a Soil Conservation Program. Notion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Lowstuter, that Erwin F. Carl be nominated Director for a four (l+) year term, representing the Washington County Pomona Grange. Notion carried. Notion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Lowstuter, that Linsey Gillis be nominated Director for a three (3) year term, representing the Washington County Farm Bureau. Notion carried. Notion by Mr. Pettit, seconded by Mr. Lane, that Jay Nolan be nominated Director for a two (2) year term, representing the National Farm Loan Association of Washington. Notion carried. Notion by Mr. Pettit, seconded by Mr. Lowstuter, that Harry Bank be nominated for a one (1) year term, representing the Washington County Artificial Brooding Cooperative. Notion carried.
