LOWSTUTER, COMMISSIONERS be appointed as members of the Bridge Crew in the Engineering and Bridge Department,. effective March 22, 194B, and covering the period from that date to the first Monday in January, 1949,E with the proviso that they may be dismissed upon thirty days$ notice. Notion carried. There being no further business to come before the Board at this time, the meeting adjourned. Pettit, Lane and Lowstuter. Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Pettit, that Harry R. Miller be appointed Assistant Surveyor in the Engineering and Bridge department, effective March 24, 1948, and covering the period from that date to the first Monday in January, 1949, with proviso that he may be dismissed upon thirty days: notice. Motion carried. Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Pettit, that John McCarroll be appointed Bridge Inspector in the Engineering and Bridge Department, effective March 29, 194g, and covering the period from that date to the first Monday in January, 1949. ]lotion carried. Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Lowstuter, that Good Priday, March 26, 194g, be observed as a legal holiday, and that all Court House Offices will be open to conduct business as usual on Saturday morning, March 271, 1948, from 9100 a.m., to 12t00 m. Motion carried. Notion duly made and seconded that a proposed change of polling places be made in and for the following districts, and that action on said proposed changes will be taken on v the th day, of April, 1948, at nwo a.m.: South Strabane Township - 3d Precinct From: Residence of Riley Lockwood Tot Basement Room - Laboratory School South Strabane Township - 4th Precinct Proms John Duggan Filing Station Tot Storeroom of Frank R. Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorized to cancel 1 1 Tax Sale of January 22, 1940, to the Washington County Commissioners, for the non-payment of MINUTE BOOK 27 BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA FRANGIs E. PETTIT, W. J. LANE, HENRY J. LOWSTUTER, COMMISSIONERS the 19271, 1928 School Taxes and 1927, 1928 and 1930 Road Taxes, assessed in Buffalo Twp., against John Cunningham and described as e47 Acres Coale, in as much as said property was formerly sold at Sheriff's Sale at 90 August Term, 1937, A. D., August 23, 1937, and money derived from said sale was sufficient to pay all prior delinquent tax liens. In addition an error exists in description of property at the time of sale being described as 47 Acres Coal and the same being 47 Acres of Surface. The Prothonotary is directed to make the proper entry in his Treasurer's Deed Book and other records. Motion carried. Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer is hereby authorized to cancel the Tax Sale of March 24, 1942, for the non-payment of 1935 County Tax covering a two story frame house and lots 604-606, Railroad Street, in Monongahela, 3rd ward, assessed in the name of Dora M. Jackson, since the 1935 County tax for which the property was sold was paid to W. J. Landis, Tax Collector, by the Sheriff of Washington County, the property having been sold at Sheriff's Sale, at 45 May Term, 1936, A.D., and therefore, the lien in the Treasurer's Office should have been marked paid and satisfied. The Prothonotary is directed to make the proper entry in his Treasurer's Deed Book and other records. Notion carried. Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer is hereby authorised to cancel Tax Sale of April 2, 1945, for the non-payment of 1939, County, School and Road taxes as property assessed to J. E. Spanko, situated in East Bethlehem Township, described as parcel of ground - Store and Lot, Hbrth Clarksville, Pa., inasmuch as the assessment against this property which was previously sold to the County Commissioners by the County Treasurer in the January and April 1940 Tex Sales for the non-payment of the 19289 1929, 1930, 19319 1932, 1933 and 1934 County, School and Road Taxes in the name of Marshall and Hush and described as 105 Acres Surface and Stone House. The above property was sold by the County Commissioners by Sale 1lb. 412, on April 5, 1943, C. 0. Ito. 357, February Term, 1943, A.D., to Joseph Yablonski of California, Pennsylvania. The County Treasurer sold this property of date.. April 2, 1945 sale to Mildred Spanko in the amount of $164,60 (of which $30.18 was County tax, for yr. of 1939, $101.52 School Tax for the yr, of 1939, $32.90 Road Tax for the-yr. of 1939 and $5.50 Sale Costs.) Therefore, each prospective district should make a refund to Mildred Spanko as the moneys received have been distributed by the County Treasurer on April 25, 1946, by check Mo. 200. The Prothonotary is directed to make the proper entry in his Treasurer's Deed Book and other records. Notion carried. Motion duly made and seconded that by reason of cancellation of the April 2, 1945, Treasurer's Tax ;bale (Excerpt from Minute #24 - larch 5, 1948) by reason of prior sale to the Washington County Commissioners that a refund be made to J. C. McLaughlin of Finleyville, Pennsylvania, in the amount of $19.68 being the amount paid by him for the said property at the Treasurer's Sale of April 2, 1945, and that the amount of refund be retained by the County from the sale thereof, Motion carried. Notion duly made and seconded that the President's Proclamation of December 31, 1946, 28 MINUTE.' BOOK BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA FRANCIS E. PETTIT, W. J. LOWSTUTER, COMMISSIONERS in determining what Veterans of World War J2 are eligible to County Headstones, Burial Allow- ances and other Veterans' benefits that the County may have established; be accepted, as follows "Now therefore I, Harry S. Truman, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim the cessation of hostilities of WorliWar II effective December 31, 1946." Any person entering the armed forces of his country on or prior to December 31, 1946, is entitled to County Benefits; any person entering the armed forces after December 31, 1946, is entitled to County Benefits provided he had prior enlistment between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946. Lotion carried. Notion duly made and seconded that the County Controller be authorised to advertise for B4ds, for the use of the County Road and Bridge Department, for Two (2) one and one-half tM Dump Trucks with specifications as follows; cab over engine model; dual tires on,rear wheels, 750 X 20, 10 ply; steel dump body - loix 66" - minimum 12" and maximum 18" depth on sides; body to be equipped with corners for side boards; helper springs; 90 to 105 Horsepower; heater and defroster; and specifying immediate delivery date. One Bid to show allowance for trade-in value of 1940 Ford one and one-half_ton dump:Truck, and the other bid to be shown without aay trade-in allowance; said Bids to be received until 11:00 a.m.,EST., Friday, April 16, 1948, and opened immediately thereafter in the Office of the County Commissioners. A certified check in the amount of $250.00 must accompany, proposal of each bidder and the right is reserved to reject any or all bids. Notion carried. Notion duly made and seconded that the County Controller be authorised to advertise for Bids for furnishing and delivering Two (2) four -door Standard Dodge Sedans, one to be for the use of the Sheriff's Office and the other to be for the use of the County Detectives, with heater, defroster and also specifying the immediate delivery date; said bids to be received unti.l,11 00 a.m., EST., Friday, April 16, 1948, and opened immediately thereafter in the Office of the County Commissioners; a certified check in the amount of $250.00 must accompany* proposal of each bidder and the right is reserved to reject,any or all bids.
