LOWSTUTER, COMMISSIONERS ffiONONOAHTULA POBLI98IF0 00s The Commissioners instruct the Chief Clerk to write a letter to the City Fathers of Washington, notifying them of the poor manner in which the Honor Roll on the Court House Lawn is being taken care of. Effective this date, August 12, 1948, the Commissioners are assuming the responsibility of proper care for the Honor Roll. A number of bills were presented by various Service Organisations of Washington County for the payment of Memorial Day Services under the sponsorship of their organisation. Motion duly made and seconded that these bills be tabled for further information. Motion carried. The estimate Of G. P. Beck, Jr.,, for the repair of the Roofs on the County Home Buildings was tabled and the Chief Clerk was instructed to obtain estimates from other Roofing and Tinning Contractors. There being no further business to come before the Board at this time, the meeting adjourned. Referring to your letter of duly tad, 1948, please be advised that in order to learn the extent of the work involved in the rehabili- tation of the abwo structure, I have made some preliminary visual inspection and an pleased to quote you a price of Six ($6.00) Dollars per lineal foot of bridge, measured from abutment to abutment, for furnishing the following engineering services: 1 r MINUTE BOOK BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA I FRANCIS E. Preparation of plans, specifications, proposals, etc. for making the necessary repairs, replacements and general re -habilitation of sub- structure and superstructure, including new steel deck for roadway and sidewalk and cleaning and painting all of the steel work. 3. Preparing an estimate of the cost of doing all of the above work. �. Supervising the letting of the contract for adl of the work and doing all of the necessary engineering and of inspection as the work progresses in the field. At the present time, it is advantageous for the awarding authorities to purchase for their own account as much material as possible. Since there is considerable material to purchase on this job and maw* things to be discussed, I would suggest a joint meeting of the Commissioners of Wash- ington and. Westmoreland Counties. If w7 proposition interests you, I will be available on a few days notice to attend such a meeting for the purpose of acquainting the joist Boards with the several solutions of problems and procedure that should be followed in doing this work. JACOBSEN) office of the County Commissioners Greensburg, Pa., August 20, 1948 The Board of County Commissioners of Westmoreland County, including Frank K. Cochran, J. Calvin Turner and W. Everett Noel, together with Vincent E. Williams, the County Solicitor, and Ben R. Hebrank, the County Engineer, not in special executive session with the County Commissioners of Washington County, including W. J. Lane, Francis E. Pettit, Henry J. Lowstuter and John Bevec, Chief Clerk, and H. B. Crumrine, Engineer, to consider the Webster - Donors, Inter -County Bridge. It was moved by W. J. Lane, Commissioner of Washington County, and seconded by J. Calvin Turner, Commissioner of Westmoreland County, that Carl J. Jacobsen, Construction Engineer;, be employed in accordance with the proposal contained in: letter of August 9, 1948, for the purpose of making a thorough field inspection of the entire bridge and furnish a report of same together with statements of construction as to various types of flooring and other necessary repairs, said improvements to be paid for on a basis of costs incurred by Mro Jacobsen, plus 100 per -cent for overhead and further that should it be decided to go ahead with the repair of said bridge that said Carl B. Jacobsen be employed In accordance with the :terms set forth in his letter of August 9, 1948, for the following services: 1. Preparation of plans, specifications, proposals, etc., for making the necessary repairs, maplacoments and general re -habilitation of substructure and superstructure, including now steel deck for road- way and sidewalk and cleaning and painting all of the steel work. 2. Preparing an estimate of the cost of doing all of the above work. 3. Supervising the letting of the contract for all of the work and doing all of the necessary engineering and supervision of ftspection as the work progresses in the field. The total costs for charges to the Counties involved for all services include the
