The Commissioners of Washington and Greene Counties met in a special meeting
at the Court House in Washington, Pa., at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 1950, for the pur-
pose of settling unpaid accounts due for maintenance to each County on bridges jointly owned.
Present for Washington County were Commissioners Pettit, Lane and Lowstuter
and Engineer H. B. Crumrine; and, present for Greene County were CommissioneraDdley and Bryan,
Chief Clerk Meighen and Engineer Warnecke.
During the meeting, itemized statements were presented, showing Washington Coun
expended from January, 1, 1936, to January 1, 1950, $9,867.63, for materials and labor on
bridges jointly owned by Washington and Greene Counties; and Greene County expended during the
same period $4,625.94, leaving a balance of $5,241.69 to be jointly shared by both counties,
or $23,620.85 being each county's share, this, showing Greene County owing Washington County
$2,620.85 plus $111.37 due from sale of scrap iron from Washington County Bridge #3. This
makes a total of $2,732.22 owed by Greene County to Washington County.
Due to a differential in wage scale, (Washington County scale being higher than
that of Greene County), the following motion was adopted by Washington County Commissioners:
Motion by Mr. Lane, seconded by Mr. Lowstuter, that the County of Washington
accept the sum of $2,500 from Greene County as settlement in full of all accounts payable as ofl
January 1, 1950, for maintenance work done by Washington County on bridges jointly owned by
Greene County.
Motion carried.
The Commissioners from both Counties agreed unanimously that an annual settle-
ment of expenditures made by both counties should be made annually and that when contract work
is involved, then joint action of both Boards is required. It was further agreed that the
following division of bridges be made for the purpose of making each County responsible for
certain bridges. Bridges assigned to Washington County:
(1) Ten Mile Bridge, Washington County #/+
Greene County #87
(2) Ten Mile Bridge, Washington County #5
Greene County #88
(3) Ten Mile Bridge, Washington County #11
