Motion duly made and seconded that the following Resolution be adopted:
"A pause is made in the strenuous activities of the day in order to pay tribute
to a worthy public servant who died yesterday, March 15, 1945.
John D. Berryman, a former member of this Board, earned the respect and
admiration of all those who knew him and came in contact with him for his strength
of character, his devotion to principle and the daily practice of those precepts
and virtues which distinguish those to whom we refer as Christian gentlemen.
A native of this county, born at Allenport, November 6, 1867, though actively
1 engaged in business for practically his entire life, it did not prevent him from
I devoting so much of his time to the welfare of his church, his city and his
fellowmen. Because of these mazy fine qualities, the Court, upon the death of
W. A. Barnes in 1934, appointed him as County Commissioner to fill the vacancy
thus caused. He was elected for a full term in 1935, and again in 1939, serving
eight years as -Chairman of the Board.
In his passing, his country, as well as his family, has suffered a distinct
loss and the present Board of County Commissioners takes this opportunity to
extend to his widow and his family, their deep felt sympathy and condolences."
Motion carried.
There being no further business to come before the meeting at this time, it was
i
f adjourned.
