Washington, Pa., January 3, 1944
Ross R. Cummins, Francis E. Pettit and John N. O'Neil, elected County Commissioners of
Washington County,, Pennsylvania, at the Munioipal Election hold on the first Tuesday after the
first Monday of November, 1943, met in the Office of the County Commissioners in the Court House
in the City of Washington, at 11 A.M.., on Monday, January 3, 1944, being the first Monday of
January following the said election, for the purpose of assuming their offices., their respective
bonds having been approved and filed with the County Controller, and the oaths of office of the
said County Commissioners having been subscribed to before the Court of Common Pleas at 10 A.M.
of the said Monday,, January 3. 19", and filed with the Prothonotary as required by the Act of
Assembly.
The Board of County Commissioners proceeded to organize upon motion by Mr. Pettit,
seconded by Ure Cummins, that Rose R. Cummins be elected Chairman of the Board of County
1 Commissioners. Motion carried and Mr. Cummins declared elected Chairman*
The organization then proceeded with Chaimau Cummins in the Chair.--
Motion by Mr. Cummins, seconded by. Mr. Pettit, that Francis E. Pettit be elected Secretary
of the Board*'- Motion carried and Mr. Pettit declared elected Searetary.
Motion by Mr. Pettit, seconded by Mr. Cummins, that W. W, Groner be appointed as Chief
Clerk to the County Commissioners, bond to be given in the amount of $1,000900 as required by
the Act of Assembly. Motion carried,
Motion by Mr. Pettit, seconded by Mr. Cummins, that David H. Weiner be appointed as
I Solicitor to the County Commissioners* Motion carried.
Motion by Mr. Pettit, seconded by Mr. Cummins, that the following named persons be am-
ployed in the Office of the County Commissioners in the respective capacities set forth for the
year 1944, covering the period from the first Monday in January, 1944, to the first Monday in
January,, 1945, with proviso that each may be dismissed upon thirty days' notice.-
Corrine Haught, Secretary to Chief Clerk
Lawrence. McCarty, Voucher Clerk
Nell B. Nioksick, Bookkeeper
Motion carried.
Motion by Mr. Pettit, seconded by Mr* Cummins, that the following named persons be em-
ployed in the Washington County Real Estate Department in the respective capacities set forth
for the year 1944, covering the period from the first Monday in January, 1944, to the first
Monday in January,, 1945, with proviso that each may be dismissed upon thirty days• notice:

appointed as Court House employees in the respective capacities set forth for the year 1944,

Motion by Mr. Pettit, seconded by Mr. Cummins, that David R. Davidson be appointed as Sealer
of Weights and Measures for Washington County. Motion carried.
Motion by Mr. Pettit, seconded by Mr. Cummins, that Protas Pavlak be appointed as Assistant
Sealer of Weights and Measures for the year 1944, covering the period from the first Monday in
q January, 19", to the first Monday in January, 1945, with proviso that he may be dismissed upon
thirty days' notice. Motion carried.

Motion by Mr. Pettit, seconded by Mr. Cummins, that the proposal of T. J. Stevens, Clays-
ville, Pa., be accepted for Unit No. 2 in accordance with his proposal for painting in the District
i
1 Attorney's and County Detectives' Offices as follows:

Unit No. 2 - This includes Rooms No. 212 & 213, and room in rear as well as
waiting room and toilet -- the same specifications to be adhered to as in
Unit No. 1 ---------------
M Price for Unit No. 2 .............................................. 260.00

and that payment be authorized in the amount of $22.50 fdr the third coat of paint which it was
I found necessary to apply in the County Detectives' Office in connection with the completion of
the work covered by Unit No. 1 of the aforementioned proposal, authorized by the Board under

j date of December 27, 1943. Motion carried.

Notion by Mr. O'Neil, seconded by Mr. Pettit, that the County Solicitor be directed to

I prepare the proper resolution and other necessary papers incidental to the adoption by the

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania of the Donora-Webster Bridge as provided by Act Noe 333, approved
May 2$0 1943. Motion carried.
