Ll surface, South Strabane 'Township, for non-payment of 1927 and 1928 County, School and Township Taxes, inasmuch as the above described property was sold on Pabruary 10, 1933, at Sheriff's Sale, K . Fa. No, 110 Feb. Perm, 1933, to Peoples National Bank and the above taxes were not certified as liens, but have since been paid. Motion carried. Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorized to abate penalty iand interest on delinquent taxes assessed against property of Clyde Dryer, in the Borough of Centerville, described as a "Two-story brick house, adjoining Brashear", concurring with similar action of the Borough and School District under date of May 12, 1944, Motion carried. Pa., May 169 1944. Board of County Commissioners in regular session, specially called, those present being Mr. Cummins, Mr. Pettit and Mr. O'Neil. Motion duly made and seconded that the resignation of Ernest T. Laird as Tax Collector in Somerset Township be accepted, effective immediately, and that Elizabeth B. Laird, of R.D.+1, Eighty Four, Pa., be appointed to fill the vacancy created by said resignation, in accordance with the Act of May 1, 1933, P. L. 103, Section 423. Motion carried. There being no further business to come before the Board at this time, the meeting was adjourned. May 19, 1944. Motion by Mr. Pettit, seconded by Mr. Cummins, that the claim of Bentleyville Volunteer - Fire Department for $15.00, as rental for use of building as a Polling Place for the Primary, held i 1 April 25, 1944, be approved for payment. Motion carried. County Controller Harvey Stuart called into the meeting, for the purpose of awarding contract in accordance with advertisement of the County Controller for bids an furnishing books requested by the Judge of the Orphans' Court. Motion by Mr. Pettit, seconded by Mr. Cummins, that the contract for books in accordance with said advertisement be awarded to A. Kirk ITrenshall3 on his bid of 892.50, ; Motion carried, with County Controller Stuart present when this action was taken, and instructed to return the certified checks of the unsuccessful bidders. i County Controller Stuart excused from the meeting, and the regular order of business continued. E Motion duly made and seconded that the following resolution be adopted: F "BE IT RESOLVED by the County Commissioners of Washington County, that the plans submitted by the Department of Highways for the changing of State Highway Route 242, Section S-1, in Canton Township, between Stations 57gOO and 629X00; 65SX00 and 697/00; 742/00 and 773X44; have been examined and the County Commissioners agree that the County will not assume liability for any property damages resulting from the construction of the highway as contemplated these g y p by plans, or any damages arising out of any changes or alteration of drainage resulting from the construction or maintenance of the highways, or any damages resulting to any property or holdings of any Public Utility Company; or any and all damage resulting to any coal or other minerals in and underlying the property i affected by this improvement. i p Motion carried. Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorised to cancel Tax Sale to Washington County of F. E. Markell's .0045 interest in J. W, Dawson 57 Acres Coal Land in East 4 t i Finley Township, for delinquent 1937 Road Tax, inasmuch as under date of April 27, 1942, the County I Treasurer certified that there were no unpaid taxes against the above mentioned property. j Motion carried.
