Washington, Pa., October 18, 1940.
County Commissioners in regular session, those present being Messrs. Berryman, Cummins and
O'Neil.
Motion by Mr. Cummins that the Compensation Insurance covering all county employees be
awarded to the E.VZhi&reau Agency, Cecil, Fa., provided a policy be issued by an approved in-
surance carrier.
Chairman Berryman called for remarks and Mr. O'Neil raised the question as to whether or
the
not the business is being given to f bhreau Agency without any consideration.for the services
rendered by the Hartford Accident & Indemnity Company, through the Mahe Smith Agency. By reason
of the experience that they have had during the time that they have carried these policies and
the service they have rendered to Washington County, I feel that they are entitled to every con-
sideration in the renewal of the business by reason of such service.
Question called for: Voting "Yes", Messrs. Berryman and Cummins, voting "No", Mr. O'Neil.
This being a majority, the motion was declared carried.
Motion duly made, seconded and carried that the County Treasurer be authorised to accept
liened and delinquent county tax for the year 1927 against the property assessed in the name of
Mary McKeefer in the 3rd Ward of the Borough of Canonsburg, without penalty and interest and
that the Treasurer's Tax Sale covering such property be cancelled in view of the fact that the
present owner, Dan Chicorilla, was innocent of such non-payment of the said tax, the County
Treasurer to receive an excerpt of this minute.
The County Solicitor, David Ho Weiner, appeared before the Board and presented to the
County Commissioners a Bill of Compidint filed by James McGugin and Robert R. Reed against the
Commissioners and Controller in connection with the awarding of a conttgot to the National
Bituminous Corporation, Washington, Pa., for the improvement of the Claysville-Burnsville Road,
seeking to enjoin the Controller from approving the contract, and both the Commissioners and
the Controller from making any payment on account thereof, On the advice of the Solicitor, it
was decided to submit the matter to the contractor to determine his wishes before taking any
action.
