Washington, Pa., June 6, 1941,
Board of County Commissioners in regular session, those present being Messrs. Berryman, Cummins
and O'Neil.
Motion duly made and seoonded that approval be given to payment of the sun of $300e00 in favor
of Devore, Benedict & France, Attorneys for Harriet Co Swallow,, representing payment in full under
the executed release for injuries sustained by Harriet C. Swallow when she fell at or near the
approach to the bridge crossing Pigeon Creek in Monongahela City on or about March 6, 1939. Motion

carried, with approval also given to the payment of $10.48 in favor of 'Falter Carson, prothonotary,
i representing costs incurred in connection with the suit brought against the County for the said
injuries of Harriet C. Swallow.
Motion duly made and seconded that approval be given to the payment of the sum of $225900 in
I favor of H. J. Clendenen, representing the amount awarded to him by the viewers on Feburary 8, 1929,

at No. 5 May Term, 1928, Roads, in connection with the opening of a new road in Caroll Township*
Motion carried.
Minute No. 205 was read and approved by the Board.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned.

Board of County Commissioners in regular session, those present being Messrs. Berryman, Cummins
and O'Neil.
( The Chairman presented a letter addressed to the Washington County Commissioners from J. X.
Smith, County Controller, with further reference to the matter of the payment of the suns of $300.00
j in favor of Devore, Benedict & France, Attorneys for Harriet Co Swallow, representing payment in

full under the executed release for injuries sustained by the said Harriet C. :8�rallow.when she fell
at or near the approach to the bridge crossing Pigeon Creek in Monongahela City on or about March 6,
1939. County Controller with sets forth in his letter that he has approved payment of this claim
solely to prevent any further action in this matter and stipulates that the County Conissioners
shall lustituteonecessary proceedings to have the County reimbursed for this compromised settlement
made to the said Harriet Ce Swallow. After discussion, the matter was referred to Solicitor Weiner
for action towards reimbursement of the County for the amount of the said compromised settlemente

In response to a request from Deputy Prothonotary Gnip for a specific designation as to those
persons authorized to satisfy and release liens of record in the Prothonotary's Office, motion
was duly made and seconded that in addition to the County Solicitor and Chief Clerk of the
County Commissioners, the following named persons are hereby authorized and empowered to satisfy

and release liens in the Office of the Prothonotary, as well as in the Office of the County
i Treasurers Irene Merlin, John L. Simms, Anthony Note and Josephine Stoner. Motion carried and
both the Prothonotary and the County Treasurer to receive an excerpt of this minute covering
such action of the Board•
Notion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorised to cancel the Treasur-
er's Tax Sale of January 24, 1940, in the name of Jake Moore, in South Strabane Township, covering
delinquent taxes for the year 1929 against property assessed as 150 acres Surface and 2-story
stone house, such assessment being erroneous inasmuch as the said property was never owned by
the said Jake Moore• Notion carried.
Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorized to cancel the Treasur-
er's Tax Sale of April 29, 1940, in the name of Albert Ewing, in the 8th Ward of the City of
Washington, covering delinquent county taxes for the year 1931 against property assessed as House
and Lot #7, Block Wd, 940 Addison Street, such assessment being in error for the said year•
Motion carried.
Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorized to cancel the Treasur-
er's flax Sale of April 24, 1940, in the name of Fred Barnes, Carroll Township, covering delinquent
taxes for the year 1931 and 1932 against property assessed as 5 Room House and 2 Lots Nos. 144•
145, Monongahela Plan, such assessment being a duplication of the assessment of the Monongahela
Land Company. -the taxes on such assessment having been paid by the Monongahela Land Company for
the said years, Motion carried.
Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorized to cancel the Treasur.
er's Tax Sale of January 24, 1940, in the name of York Wyatt, in West Bethlehem Township, covering
delinquent taxes for the year 1928 against property assessed as 2 houses and 3 Lots No. 242-243-
244, Gayman Plan, such assessment being in error inasmuch as the said York Wyatt never held title
to the said real estate. Motion carried.
Motion duly wade and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorized to cancel the Treasur-
er's Tax Sale of April 24, 1940, in the name of James Holland, Chartiers Township, covering de-
linquent taxes for the year 1931, against property assessed as Lot No, 43, Holland Plan, McGovern
such sale being void because of an error in the description of the said lot, such description
being correct as Lot No. 3 but inadvertently transcribed from the assessor's record as Lot No, 43
for the year 1931. Motion carried.
Motion duly madd and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorized to cancel the Treasur-
er's Tax Sales of January 24 and April 26, 1940, in the name of John Davis, South Strabane Town-
ship, covering delinquent taxes for the years 1927 through 1934, against property assessed as Lot
No. 4, Odbert Plan in said township, such assessment being a duplication with that of T. J, Davis,
assessed as Lot adjacent to Lou Zelt, Jr; the assessment records and the County Treasurer's

Lien Docket for the subsequent years, 1935 to 1938 inclusive, to be corrected accordingly to
eliminate the duplicate assessment carried on the records. Motion carried.
Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorized to cancel the Treasur-
orb Tax Sale of April 24, 1940, in the name of George Be Da%#s, Chartiers Township, covering
delinquent taxes for the year 1931, against property assessed as Lot Noe 48, Cummins Plan, in
said township, said Treasurer's Tax Sale being in error in view of the fact that the said Lot
Noe 48 in the Cummins Plan was sold to Washington County at County Treasurer's Tax Sale in 1928
and subsequeAly sold in the year 1930 as the property of Washington County to George Blackwell,
who holds title and tax receipts since the date of purchase of said Lot Noe 48. Motion carried.
Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorized to cancel the Treasure•
er's Tax Sale of April 22, 1940, in the name of Harvey Horner, Canton Township, covering delin-
quent taxes for the years 1932-33-34 against property assessed as Lot No. 348, Gordon Plan, in
said township, said assessment being in duplication with that of Edward Croxton, the rightful
owner who holds tax receipts covering the payment of taxes on the said Lot No. 348. Motion
carried.
Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorized to remove from the
Treasurer's Tax Sale held in the name of James Snee, under date of April 27, 1940, Lot No. 2310,
which lot number is incorrect; said lot to be removed from the list of tax sale properties and
assessed to Stephanie Sues and properly described as Lot No. 239, Gayman Addition Plan, in Vest
Bethlehem Township, for the year 1941; also from the same sale, Lot No. 241, incorrectly assessed
to the said James Snee, such lot Noe 241, at the time of the said Treasurer's Tax Sale being the
property of William I. Horn and which was subsequently sold to Lula Wheary, who is now the right-
ful owner; such lot to be removed from the tax sale properties and assessed for the year 1941 to
the said Lula Wheary. Motion carried.
