JOHN D. BERRYMAN, ROSS R. CUMMINS, JOHN N. O'NEIL, COMMISSIONERS
by the appintment of the former clerk, Steve Shook, as Assistant to the Chief Clerk in the Registra-•
tion Office, such appointment to be effective as of May 1, 1942, and to cover the period from that
date until the first Monday in January, 1943, with proviso that he may be dismissed upon thirty days
j notice. Motion carried, with notation of this appointment to be made on the minutes of the Registra4
tion Cormnission.

Board of County Commissioners in regular session, specially called, those present being Messrs.
Berryman, Cummins and O'Neil.
Motion duly made and seconded that an appropriation in the amount of 100.00 be made to H.
Company, 3rd Infantry, Pennsylvania Reserve Defense Corps, to assist in defraying expenses of the
Corps. Motion carried*
Motion duly made and seconded that confirmation be given to the action of the Board on May 12,
1942, in changing the Polling Place in the lst Precinct of Cecil Township from the Henderson Supply
Company Store to the Community Building, Hendersonville, the former polling place being no longer
available. Motion carried.
There being no further business before the Board, the meeting was adjourned.

Board of County Commissioners in regular session, those present being Messrs. Berryman, Cumains
and O'Neil.
Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorised to cancel the Treasurer's
Tax Sale of April 24, 1940, in the name of J. F. Baker, West Pike Run Township, for the non-jayment
of delinquent taxes for the year 1931, in view of the fact that the said property was sold at Sheriff's
Sale No. 56 November Terra, 1937, but dine to the erroneous description carried on the assessment records
{ the said 1951 delinquent taxes were omitted inadvertently when the certification of unpaid taxes

against the said property was made to the Sheriff, and sufficient money was collected to cover the
said 1931 taxes had the same been properly certified to the Sheriff. Motion carried,

Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorized to cancel the Treasur=
arts Tax Sale of February 1, 1940, in the name of Raffel Gersky, Charleroi Borough, for the non-
delinquent taxes for the 1926-27-28, in view of the fact that the said property
payment of years
was sold at Sheriff's Sale at No. 33 August Term, 1940, to Anthony and Rose Porreea and the
taxes in question did not constitute a valid lien, same having been entered under the Special
Act of 1939 after the property had been purchased by an innocent purchaser. Motion carried.
Motion duly made and seconded that the County Treasurer be authorized to cancel the Treasur-
arts Tax Sale of January, 1940, in the name of James B. Burris, West Bethlehem Township, for the `
non-payment of 1928 school taxes in view of the fact that under the provisions of the Act of
Assembly the lien in question was invalid insofar as it had never been revived, such action by
this Board being taken in response to the request of the Solicitor, Be E'. Murphy, for the Sohool

District of Nest Bethlehem Township. Motion carried.
WHEREAS, The Berkshire Coal Company has been negotiating with the County Commissioners for
some time with the view of correcting certain records resulting from the failure to properly
credit certain payments made by theme on account of the said Company's taxes; and
WHEREAS, As a result thereof, the said Berkshire Coal Company, although willing to do so,
was unable to pay its taxes for the calendar years 1940 and 1941; and
WHEREAS, Negotiations have reached a point where proper credits and corrections have been
made and the taxes aforesaid can now be paid; now, therefore,
Motion is hereby duly made and seconded that by reason of the facts aforesaid, the County
Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed to accept the payment of the 1940441 county taxes at
face, without penalty and interest. Lotion carried.
Motion duly made and seconded that KatUryn C. Hughes be appointed as Assessor in the Borough
of Twilight to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of S. V. Hughes, regularly elected
assessor therein. Motion carried,
WHEREAS, By re400n of the present national emergency wherein products required by the County
in the repair and maintenance of the county roads have become difficult to obtain; and
WHEREAS, By reason of the said emergency and regulations issued in connection therewith,
competitive bidding for cold patch material is no longer applicable; and
WHEREAS, The opportunity has been afforded to Washington County to purchase one hundred 55-
gallon drums of bituminous cold patch material; now, therefore,
Motion is hereby duly made and seconded that the County Commissioners purchase from the
Koppers Company, Pittsburgh, Pa., one hundred 55-gallon drums of bituminous cold patch material,
designated as CP-6, at 18¢ per gallon, delivered at Washington, Pennsylvania, freight pre -paid,
without advertising or asking bids therefor. Motion carried, with the County Controller present
YdWth this action was taken by the Board, and agreeing therein.
Minutes No. 292-293-294 were read and approved by the Board,
before the meeting, it was adjourned.
