County Commissioners in regular session, members present being Messrs.
Berryman, Amos and O'Neil; also present were District Attorney James C. Bane,
County Controller John L. Post, Deputy Controller Edwin W. Patton and County
Solicitor David H. Weiner.
The first matter presented by President Berryman was the bill against
Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, covering the Margiotti-Philadelphia Inquirer
suit held in Washington County.
After discussion, the matter was referred to County Solicitor Weiner,
Elliott W. Finkel, Solicitor for the County Controller and Wallace Gourley,
Assistant District Attorney, as a Committee; said Committee to go to the
hearing to be held in Harrisburg and present the bill against Jefferson County
and ask for payment of same. No further action taken.

President Berryman then stated that the matter of organization of the Board
h of County Commissioners and the election of the office employees for the year
1937, would be the next in order of business. Mr. O'Neil stated that he would
not take part in the meeting for the reason that there was no notice of the
meeting or the purpose of it until that time, and left the room.
President Berryman asked the Chief Clerk to inform Mr. O'Neil that the

but Mr. O'Neil refused to return to the meeting for the same reason.
The organization of the Board effected on the first Monday of January,
1936, continued in accordance with the provisions of the Act of Assembly
(County Code) of 1929, to-tit, Mr. John D. Berryman, President of the Board !
and Mr. Earl B. Amos,_ Secretary.
Motion by Mr. Amos, seconded by Mr. Berryman, that the following persons
be elected to their respective positions for the year 1937, with proviso that
each may be dismissed upon thirty dayst notice: Bert B. Irwin, Superintendent
of Building, Fussell Adams, Chief Engineer df Court House & Jail, J. P. Meighen
and Fred R. Day, Assistants to Chief Engineer Adams, Anthony Note, Night Watch-
man, Hazel Hughes, Telephone Operator, William Baker, Elevator Operator,
Georgene H. Morton, Secretary to Superintendent of Schools. Motion carried.

Motion by Mr. Amos, seconded by Mr. Berryman, that the following persons
be elected to their respective clerical positions for the year 1937, with
proviso that each may be dismissed upon 30 dayst notice: W. Duncan Berryman,
Mary Lemmon, M. B. Armstrong, Irene Merlino., Paul W. Curry, Emmett Keegan and
Paul Allen. Motion carried.
Motion by Mr. A-mos, seconded by Mr. Berryman, that the following persons
be retained in their respective positions for the year 1937, with proviso that
each may be dismissed upon thirty dayst notice.* Gilbert J. Dentel, Secretary
to County Engineer., Charles J. Lutes, Supt. of County Garage, B. T. McGowen,
Chief Mechanic at County Garage., Jay G . Nelan., Road Foreman., G . L. Allman,,
Bridge Foreman. Motion carried.
There being no further business before the meeting, it was adjourned.
