HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM - Meeting Minutes - 4-P-11 - 4-20-2011 - PRISON BOARDPRISON BOARD MINUTE BOOK 413 WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA 41 A., z E 0 U_ m E 0 cc Minute No. 4-P-11 Washington County Prison Board Washington, PA, April 20, 2011 The monthly meeting of the Washington County Prison Board was held in the 7th floor Conference Room, Courthouse Square Office Building, Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present: Commissioners Larry Maggi, Bracken Burns and Diana Irey Vaughan, Controller Michael Namie; Sheriff Sam Romano and District Attorney Steve Toprani. Also being present: Warden Joe Pelzer; Lynn DeHaven, Solicitor; Mary Helicke, Chief Clerk; Linda Belcher, Administrative Assistant; Chuck Nicholls, Director Human Resources; Barbara Miller, Observer -Reporter and Jim Jefferson, WJPA. Chairman Maggi called the meeting to order at approximately 11:30 a.m. Chairman Maggi asked if there were any corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No.3-P-11, dated February 16, 2011. Moved by Mrs. Irey Vaughan, seconded by Mr. Namie, that Minute No. 3-P-11 be approved as written. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". PUBLIC COMMENTS None WARDEN'S REPORT Warden Pelzer presented the following information to the Board: Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for March 2011: Administrative Fee $ 2,831.63 Social Security 400.00 Monthly Sub Total 3,231.63 Year to date GRAND TOTAL $ 11,057.00 Proeram Fees and Room and Board Income for March 2011 Billed Collected Work Release $13,451.32 $13,558.82 Weekenders $ 3,648.00 3,648.00 Turned over to Clerk of Courts (Minus) -0- Adjustments made to billings (Minus) -0- Monthly Sub -Total $17,099.32 $17,206.82 Year to date GRAND TOTAL $49,642.04 $49,909.54 Status of prisoners confined at the end of March 2011: MALES FEMALES TOTAL Full Time 87 10 97 Work Release 22 3 25 Weekend prisoners 11 4 15 Unsentenced prisoners Awaiting sentencing and/or trial 145 37 182 TOTAL PRISONERS 265 54 319 MALES FEMALES TOTAL Examinations performed by the physician 77 37 114 New commitments 18 Repeat patients 96 414 MINUTE BOOK PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA Medical Transports performed by the Sheriff 8 9 Moved by Mr. Burns, seconded by Mrs. Irey Vaughan, to accept the Warden's Report as per above. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". BILLS Controller Namie presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills for the month of March in the amount of $73,877.20. Moved by Mr. Namie, seconded by Mrs. Irey Vaughan, approving the bills for the month of March. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and made a part hereof.) i OLD BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Warden Pelzer informed the Board that the correctional facility has been notified by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections that it has approved the jail's basic training curriculum through March 1, 2014. Warden Pelzer noted Captain Waugh has been doing an excellent job with the training sessions. The Board commended Warden Pelzer and his staff for a job well-done.
