HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM - Meeting Minutes - 5-P-12 - 5-16-2012 - PRISON BOARDMINUTE PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA Minute No. 5-P-12 Washington County Prison Board Washington, PA, May 16, 2012 The Washington County Prison Board was held in the 7th Floor Conference Room, Courthouse Square, Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present: Commissioners Larry Maggi, Diana Irey Vaughan and Harlan Shober; Controller Michael Namie; Sheriff Sam Romano; and absent was District Attorney Gene Vittone. Also being present: Warden Joe Pelzer; Solicitor Lynn DeHaven; Director of Administration Scott Fergus; Chief Clerk Mary Helicke; Administrative Assistant Joyce Thornburg; Human Resources Director Chuck Nicholls; Deputy Court Administrator Tom Jess; and Observer -Reporter representative Barbara Miller. Chairman Maggi called the meeting to order at approximately 11:35 a.m. Chairman Maggi asked if there were any corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No. 4-P-12, each member having received a copy. Moved by Mrs. Irey Vaughan, seconded by Mr. Namie, that Minute No. 4-P-12 be approved as written. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". PUBLIC COMMENTS None WARDEN'S REPORT Warden Pelzer presented the following information to the Board: Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for April 2012 Administrative Fee $3,114.04 Social Security -0- Monthly Sub Total $3,114.04 Year-to-date Grand Total $12,448.76 Program Fees and Room and Board Income for the Month of ADril 2012 Billed Collected Work Release $12,090.20 $11,990.20 Weekenders 1,733.00 1,733.00 Turned over to Clerk of Courts (minus) -0- Adjustments made to billings (minus) -0- Monthly Sub Total $13,823.20 $13,723.20 Year-to-date Grand Total $57,139.10 $57,716.10 Status of prisoners confined at the end of April 2012 • • 1 Males Females Total Full time 60 9 69 Work release 26 2 28 Weekend prisoners 8 2 10 Unsentenced prisoners awaiting sentencing and/or trial 1384 172 Total Prisoners 232 47 279 Males Females Total Examinations performed by the physician 31 22 53 New commitments 4 Repeat patients 49 Medical Transports performed by the Sheriff 11 Moved by Mr. Romano, seconded by Mr. Namie, to accept the Warden's Report as per above. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". OLD BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Warden Pelzer commented to Mr. Shober there are no concerns in the correctional facility, however the female population is high but population in general is down.
