HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM - Meeting Minutes - PB 2-20-13 - 2-20-2013 - PRISON BOARDMINUTE BOOK 463 PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA ;J Minute No. PB 2-20-13 Washington County Prison Board h Washington February 20, 2013 X E The meeting of the Washington County Prison Board was held in the 7th Floor Conference Room, Courthouse a U_ Square, Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present: Commissioners Larry Maggi, Diana Irey v Vaughan and Harlan Shober; Controller Michael Namie; Sheriff Samuel Romano; and District Attorney Eugene Vittone. 21 Also present: Acting Warden John Temas; Solicitor J. Lynn DeHaven; Human Resources Director Chuck Nicholls; Chief E E Clerk Mary Helicke; Administrative Assistant Joyce Thornburg; Observer -Reporter representative Barbara Miller; and cc WJPA representative Tony DiPalma. a Chairman Maggi called the meeting to order at approximately 11:40 a.m. Chairman Maggi asked if there were any corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No. PB 1-23-13, each member having received a copy. It was moved by Mrs. Irey Vaughan and seconded by Mr. Romano that Minute No. PB-1-23-13 be approved as written. The motion was carried unanimously with the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". PUBLIC COMMENTS None. WARDEN'S REPORT Acting Warden Temas presented the following information to the Board: Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for January 2013 Administrative Fee $2,895.45 Social Security Homeland Security/ICE Monthly Sub Total $2,895.45 Year-to-date Grand Total $2,895.45 Proeram Fees and Room and Board Income for the Month of lanuary 2013 Billed Collected Work Release $9,871.00 $9,967.00 Weekenders $1,230.00 $1,230.00 Turned over to Clerk of Courts (minus) -0- Adjustments made to billings (minus) -0- Monthly Sub Total $11,101.00 $11,197.00 Year-to-date Grand Total $11,101.00 $11,197.00 Status of prisoners confined at the end of lanuary 2013 Males Females Total Full time 51 10 61 Work release 17 3 20 Weekend prisoners 5 1 6 Unsentenced prisoners awaiting sentencing and/or trial 189 40 229 Total Prisoners 262 54 316 Males Females Total Examinations performed by the physician 45 16 61 New commitments 8 Repeat patients 53 Medical Transports performed by the Sheriff 23 Chairman Maggi called an executive session at 11:50 a.m. to discuss personnel matters. Chairman Maggi reconvened the meeting at approximately noon following the executive session. 64 MINUTE BOOK PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA On behalf of Warden Joseph Pelzer, Acting Warden John Temas recommended to the Board that Major Edward Strawn be named Deputy Warden of the Washington County Correctional Facility at the current Deputy Warden's salary. Moved by Mrs. Irey Vaughan and seconded by Mr. Shober to approve the Warden's report above along with the recommendation that Major Edward Strawn to be named Deputy Warden. The motion was carried unanimously with the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". BILLS Mr. Namie presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills dated February 20, 2013, in the amount of $46,562.07. Moved by Mr. Namie and seconded by Mr. Shober to approve the bills dated February 20, 2013. The motion carried unanimously with the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and made a part hereof.) OLD BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS None.
