HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM - Meeting Minutes - PB 4-17-13 - 4-17-2013 - PRISON BOARDMINUTE BOOK PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA eco Minute No. PB 4-17-13 Washington County Prison Board Washington, Pa., April 17, 2013 E The meeting of the Washington County Prison Board was held in the 7th Floor Conference Room, Courthouse 4 LL Square, Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present: Commissioners Diana Vaughan and m Harlan Shober; Controller Michael Namie; and Sheriff Samuel Romano. Also present: Warden John Temas; Deputy Warden Edward Strawn; Major Donald Waugh; Deputy Assistant District Attorney Chad Schneider; Solicitor J. Lynn DeHaven; Director of Administration Scott Fergus; Human Resources Director Chuck Nicholls; Chief Clerk Mary Helicke; cc Administrative Assistant Joyce Thornburg; and Observer Reporter representative Barbara Miller. Absent from the a meeting are Chairman Larry Maggi and District Attorney Gene Vittone. Vice Chairman Vaughan called the meeting to order at approximately 11:30 a.m. Vice Chairman Vaughan asked if there were any corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No. PB 4-3-13, each member having received a copy. It was moved by Mr. Namie and seconded by Mr. Shober that Minute No. PB 4-3-13 be approved as written. The motion was carried unanimously with the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". PUBLIC COMMENTS None. WARDEN'S REPORT Warden Temas presented the following information to the Board: Income from other units for the maintenanre of prisoners for March 2013 Administrative Fee $2,632.29 Social Security 400.00 Homeland Security/ICE Monthly Sub Total $3,032.29 Year-to-date Grand Total $9,236.16 Program Fees and Room and Board Income for March 2013 Billed Collected Work Release $5,803.04 $5,671.04 Weekenders $1,908.00 $1,908.00 . Turned over to Clerk of Courts (minus) Adjustments made to billings (minus) -0- -0- Monthly Sub Total $7,711.04 $7,579.04 Year-to-date Grand Total $26,698.91 $26,540.91 Status of prisoners confined at the end of March 2013 Males Females Total Full time 70 5 75 Work release 14 4 18 Weekend prisoners 8 5 13 Unsentenced prisoners awaiting sentencing and/or trial 176 48 224 Total Prisoners 268 62 330 Males Females Total Examinations performed by the physician 47 17 64 New commitments 12 Repeat patients 55 Medical Transports performed by the Sheriff 13 470 MINUTE BOOK PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYL.VANIA Warden Temas recommended to the Board to extend the current contract for the Correctional Facility pharmacy services with Curtis Pharmacy LTC Services, Washington Pa. at a yearly cost of $104,000. This contract is effective through April 30, 2014. This contract extension is under the same terms and conditions as the original contract and is contingent upon approval at the Board of Commissioners meeting to be held April 18, 2013, Minute No. 947. Warden Temas recommended to the Board to approve the promotion of Michael Kasula to Alternative Sentencing Coordinator. This promotion will fill a vacant position. Moved by Mr. Shober and seconded by Mr. Romano to approve the Warden's Report. The motion was carried unanimously with the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". BILLS Mr. Namie presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills dated April 17, 2013, in the amount of $111,495.85. Moved by Mr. Namie and seconded by Mr. Romano to approve the bills dated April 17, 2013. The motion carried unanimously with the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and made a part hereof.) OLD BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS None.
