Minute No. PB 2-15-17 Washington County Prison Board
Washington, Pennsylvania, February 15, 2017
The meeting of the Washington County Prison Board was held in the 7t floor conference
room, Courthouse Square, Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present:
Commissioners Larry Maggi and Diana Irey Vaughan; Harlan G. Shober, Jr.; Controller Michael
Namie; Sheriff Samuel Romano; and District Attorney Eugene Vittone; absent was Judge John
DiSalle. Also present were: Warden Ed Strawn; Solicitor Lynn DeHaven; Finance Director Joshua J.
Hatfield; Deputy Controller Cathy Sams; Human Resources Director Kathleen Bali; Chief Clerk Cindy
Griffin; Secretary Paula Jansante; and Observer -Reporter representative Barbara Miller.
Mr. Maggi called the meeting to order at approximately 11:34 a.m.
Mr. Maggi asked if there were any corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No.
PB 1-18-16, dated January 18, 2017, each member having received a copy.
It was moved by Mr. Namie and seconded by Mrs. Vaughan that Minute No. PB 1-18-17 be
approved. The motion was carried unanimously with the Board signifying their approval by stating
'Aye".
PUBLIC COMMENTS
None.
WARDEN'S REPORT
Warden Strawn presented the following information to the Board:
Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for January 2017

Mrs. Vaughan commented on the high population figure of 429. Warden Strawn responded
that the numbers are high due to the holiday season and that they tend to go back down.
Mr. Shober asked how many inmates are on work release. Warden Strawn responded that
he did not recall the exact figure. He stated that this morning's head count was 407 for the total
population, including inmates on work release.
It was moved by Mrs. Vaughan and seconded by Mr. Romano to approve the Warden's
Report dated February 15, 2017. The motion was carried unanimously with the Board signifying
their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and made a part hereof.)
BILLS
Mr. Namie presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills dated
February 15, 2017, in the amount of $125,901.85.
It was moved by Mr. Namie and seconded by Mr. Shober to approve the bills dated
February 15, 2017. The motion was carried unanimously with the Board signifying their approval
by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and made a part hereof.)
OLD BUSINESS

NEW BUSINESS
None.
There being no further business, Chairman Maggi declared the meeting adjourned at
approximately 11:36 a.m.
