HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM - Meeting Minutes - 3-P - 3-12-1980 - PRISON BOARD62 1 MINUTE BOOK PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA Minute No. 3-P Washington, Pa., March 12, 1980 The monthly meeting of the Prison Board of the County of Washington met in the Commissioners Conference Room at 11:45 a.m. with the following members being present: Commissioners Mascara and Gilmore, Judge Sweet, Roger Metcalfe, representing the Controller. Commissioner Paluso entered the meeting later. Members being absent: Sheriff Fazzoni and Acting District Attorney Costa Also being present: Barbara Davis, Administrative Assistant, Warden Taylor and Bob Robertson, Observer -Reporter. Mr. Gilmore, Secretary of the Prison Board, called the meeting to order. Secretary asked if there were any corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No. 2-P, each member having received a copy. Moved by Judge Sweet, seconded by Mr. Mascara, that Minute No. 2-P be approved as read. Motion carried by unanimous vote cast by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". WARDEN'S REPORT Warden reported a total population of 98 prisoners, with 6 federal, 1 from Allegheny County, 1 from Greene County and 1 from Fayette County. Warden reported that he had been informed by a representative from Roanoke Iron & Bridge Company that there would be another two week delay in starting the installation of the locking system. Remarks: Mr. Gilmore: I have requested, in the absence of Mr. Ligman, a further explanation, and we will then follow-up on that. Warden suggested that some of the prisoners be allowed to wash and wax some of the County vehicles that need cleaning. Remarks: Mr. Gilmore: The problem is there are no facilities down there or drains, but once we get the addition put on, we can look into this program. Judge Sweet: I have no objections in letting them clean the County cars. I see, no problem in cleaning the cars that are assigned to individuals. Brief discussion was held concerning the increasing number of calls for medical care from prisoners. Mr. Metcalfe presented the bills for the month of February, 1980, for consideration and approval by the Board. 63 MINUTE BOOK PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA (Mr. Paluso entered the meeting.) Discussion was held concerning the increase in operating costs at the Jail due to the increase in population. Warden Taylor stated they are running 12 prisoners over the average population, and wondered if they would run over the projected budget for this year if the population kept up at this rate. Judge Sweet asked the Warden to find out what the costs are per day to feed a prisoner in other counties. Moved by Mr. Mascara, seconded by Judge Sweet, approving payment of the bills for the month of February, 1980. Motion carried by unanimous vote cast by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye".
