HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM - Meeting Minutes - 11-P - 12-12-1984 - PRISON BOARD196 MINUTE ® O K PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA :Minute No. 11-P Washington County Prison Board Washington, PA, December 12, 1984 The Washington County Prison Board met in the County Jail at approximately 11:35 a.m. with the following members being present: Commissioners Mascara and Paluso, Controller Beharry, District Attorney Pettit and Sheriff Fazzoni. Absent being: Judge Gilmore and Commissioner Petrosky. Also being present: Warden Poland; Linda Hands, Clerk -Steno II; Natalie Moore, Herald -Standard and Barbara Miller, Observer -Reporter. Chairman Mascara called the meeting to order and asked if there were any corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No. 10-P, each member having re- ceived a copy. Moved by Miss Beharry, seconded by Mr. Petrosky, that Minute No., 10-P be approved as read. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". WARDEN'S REPORT: Warden Poland reported to the Board the following information: Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for November, 1984: U. S. Marshalls $10,605.00 Allegheny County $ 656.50 Greene County $ 35.00 TOTAL 11,296.50 Total Work Release and Weekender's Room and Board for November, 1984:' Weekender's were billed $ 625.00 Received $510.00 Work Release were billed $ 450.00 Received $430.00 TOTAL $ 1,075.00 $940.00 Inmates seeing doctor for November, 1984: Males 45 Females 11 Population Breakdown: MALES FEMALES TOTALS Sentenced prisoners 61 7 68 Unsentenced prisoners-_45.. 5 50 Federal Holdovers 13 2 15 TOTALS 119 14 133 Warden Poland reported to the Board that tuberculosis tests have been done on all inmates. Those that prove to be positive will require a second testing and will be provided a chest X-ray. The Board of Health will follow up all positive results. Mr. Poland noted that most prison personnel also took part in the testing. Mr. Poland informed the Board that the Jail received 525 field jackets from the Mechanicsburg Military Disposal in Harrisburg at no cost to the County. Warden Poland stated that they will be used for all inmates. Warden Poland also informed the Board that they are working on a contract with the four (4) new doctors who are with the family planning group. Mr. Poland noted that the doctors would come to the Jail 3 days a week and would be retained at a cost of $350.00 per month for each doctor. 1 f I 197 MINUTE BOOK PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA Commissioner Paluso questioned the invoice from Marshall Elevator ($620.00) for the dumbwaiter repair which the County has a maintenance agreement for same. :Warden Poland advised him that the expense was incurred before a maintenance ;agreement was obtained. BILLS : Controller Beharry presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills for the month of November, 1984, in the amount of $22,114.61. Discussion was held on the invoice from Washington Hospital ($11,301.20) which included medical expenses for inmate R. Steele in the amount of $8,820.35. Warden. Poland made reference to an up -date letter he sent to the Board members regarding inmate Steele. He further explained the status of this inmate. Moved by Mr. Fazzoni, seconded by Miss Beharry, approving the payment of the bills for the month of November, 1984. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". Some discussion followed. The Board was in agreement than; the matter should be investigated.
