HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM - Meeting Minutes - 7-P-92 - 7-8-1992 - PRISON BOARDWashington County Prison Board Washington, Pa., July 8, 1992 The monthly meeting of the Washington County Prison Board was held in the 7th Floor Conference Room, Courthouse Square, Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present: Commissioners Mascara and Petrosky; Judge Gladden; Deputy Controller Namie; and District Attorney Pettit. Absent being: Commissioner Ford, who was on vacation, and Sheriff Fazzoni. Also being present: Warden Pelzer; Linda Hands, Clerk -Steno; Jim Jefferson, WJPA; and Kathie Warco, Observer -Reporter. Chairman Mascara called the meeting to order at approximately 11:40 a.m. and asked if there were any corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No. 6-P-92, each member having received a copy. Moved by Mr. Petrosky, seconded by Mr. Pettit, that Minute No. 6-P-92 be approved as written. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". Warden's Report: Warden Pelzer presented to the Board the following information: Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for June: No monies were collected. Total Work Release and Weekenders: Work Release were billed $4,500.00 Weekenders were billed $2,220.00 Amount received $6,070.00 No monies were turned over to the Clerk of Courts for collection. Status of prisoners confined at the end of June, 1992: MALES FEMALES TOTAL Full -Time prisoners 39 3 42 Weekend prisoners 31 3 34 Work Release 35 0 35 Home Detention Program 14 3 17 Unsentenced prisoners Awaiting sentencing 5 2 7 Awaiting trial 75 2 77 TOTAL PRISONERS 199 13 212 No. of inmates doctor saw 119 10 129 New commitments doctor saw 71 Repeat patients doctor saw 58 Sheriff transported 16 inmates Discussion was held relative to the home incarceration program. Reference was made to a recent incident in Allegheny County where there was a breach of the program. Warden Pelzer noted that even though there may be some problems, the only ones our jail has experienced have been very minimal. District Attorney Pettit noted that Allegheny County only monitors their home incarceration inmates every other day whereas our jail monitors the inmates daily. E 1 r� r Chairman Mascara made reference to a letter received from Commissioner Lehman of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections stating that the Department has received the County's application for funding under Act 71 and that the Department will be reviewing the application. He noted that he would provide copies of this letter to the Board members if they had not already received it. Bills: Deputy Controller Namie presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills for the month of June in the amount of $41,021.42. Moved by Judge Gladden, seconded Mr. Petrosky, approving the payment of the bills for the month of June as per above. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and made a part hereof.)
