Irey; J. Bracken Burns, Sr. and Joseph A. Ford, Sr.; Controller Belcastro; and Sheriff Larry Maggi. Absent being: Judge Gilmore and District Attorney Pettit. Also being present: Warden Pelzer; Bill McGowen, Director of Administration; Linda Hands, Secretary; Joe Smydo, Observer -Reporter; and Jim Jefferson, WJPA. Chairman Irey called the meeting to order at approximately 11:35 a.m. asked if there were any additions or omissions to Minute No. 1-P-98 each member having received a copy. Moved by Mr. Burns, seconded by Mr. Ford, that Minute No. 1-P-98 be approved as written. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". WARDEN'S REPORT Warden Pelzer presented to the Board the following information: Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for January. 1998: Other Counties (Greene and Fulton) U. S. Marshal U. S. Immigration Administrative Fee Monthly Sub -Total Year to date GRAND TOTAL Program Fees and Room and Board Income for the Month of Tanuary Work Release/Home Detention $ 8,345.00 Weekenders $ 3,370.00 Turned over to Clerk of Courts (Minus) $ 210.00 Adjustments made to billings (Minus) $ 755.48 Monthly Sub -Total $11,715.00 Year to date GRAND TOTAL $ 11,715.00 Status of prisoners confined at the end of January. 1998: $ 2,720.00 $ 4,650.00 $ 5,250.00 $ 1,223.77 $ 13,843.77 $ 13,843.77 Collected $ 8,075.00 $ 2,448.00 $10,523.00 $10,523.00 MALES FEMALES TOTAL Full Time 73 8 81 Work Release 39 3 42 Weekend prisoners 45 8 53 Home Detention Program 1 1 2 Unsentenced prisoners Awaiting sentencing and/or trial 79 10 89 TOTAL PRISONERS 237 30 267 MALES FEMALES TOTAL Examinations performed by the physician 136 41 177 Initial Exams 51 0 MINUTE PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA Medical Transports performed by the Sheriff 8 Warden Pelzer stated that the Correctional Facility offered a G.E.D. test program for inmates and was pleased to report that out of eight inmates who took the test, seven passed. Commissioner Burns suggested that some type of recognition for the inmates who passed the G.E.D. should be done. Warden Pelzer noted that he would get back to the Board with recommendations regarding this matter. Moved by Mr. Belcastro, seconded by Mr. Burns, accepting the Warden's Report as per above. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". BILLS Controller Belcastro presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills for the month of January, 1998 in the amount of $61,926.46. Commissioner Burns questioned the invoice from General Elevator for the maintenance of elevators at the jail and asked whether this was a part of the maintenance agreement or a separate billing. Warden Pelzer stated that the amount shown for the month ($660.00) is the Correctional Facility's portion of the elevator contract. Some discussion followed. Moved by Mr. Burns, seconded by Mr. Ford, approving the bills for the month of January, 1998. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and made a part hereof.)
