W m 4) 21 E 0 Cr • 1 0 • Minute No. 9-P-00 Washington County Prison Board Washington, PA, September 27, 2000 The monthly meeting of the Washington County Prison Board was held in the Washington County Correctional Facility, Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present: Commissioners John P. Bevec and Diana L. Irey; Sheriff Larry Maggi; Deputy Controller Mike Namie; and District Attorney John Pettit. Absent being: Commissioner J. Bracken Burns, Sr. and Judge Gilmore. Also being present: Warden Joe Pelzer; Solicitor Fran DiSalle; Linda Belcher, Secretary; Sue Orrick, Secretary Commissioner Burns Office; Jim Jefferson, WJPA; Kathy Thomas, Valley Independent and Judy Chestnutt, Observer -Reporter. Chairman Bevec called the meeting to order at approximately 11:35 a.m. and asked if there were any corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No. 8-P-00, dated August 16, 2000. Moved by Mrs. Irey, seconded by Mr. Bevec, that Minute No. 8-P-00 be approved. Motion carried unanimously with the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". WARDEN'S REPORT Warden Pelzer presented the following information to the Board: Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for August, 2000: Other Counties (Fayette and Greene) $ 5,840.00 U. S. Marshall 3,900.00 U. S. Marine 50.00 Administrative Fee 1,343.60 Monthly Sub Total 11,133.60 Year to date GRAND TOTAL $184,682.53 Prozram Fees and Room and Board Income for the month of August, 2000: Billed Collected Work Release/Home Detention $ 11,582.00 $ 11,620.00 Weekenders $ 1,355.00 $ 1,355.00 Monthly Sub -Total $ 12,937.00 $ 12,975.00 Year to date GRAND TOTAL $ 90,213.37 $ 90,309.37 Status of prisoners confined at the end of August, 2000: MALES FEMALES TOTAL Full Time 71 2 73 Work Release 45 2 47 Weekend prisoners 13 2 15 Awaiting sentencing and/or trial 100 20 120 TOTAL PRISONERS 229 26 255 MALES FEMALES TOTAL Examinations performed by the physician New commitments Repeat patients 134 39 173 Medical Transports performed by the Sheriff: 7 45 128 Moved by Mr. Bevec, seconded by Mr. Maggi, accepting the Warden's Report as per above. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". 146 MINUTE BOOK PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA BILLS Deputy Controller Namie presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills for the month of August, 2000 in the amount of $57,604.06. Chairman Bevec questioned the invoice from Zappi Oil ($778.95) for antifreeze. Warden Pelzer explained the antifreeze was used in the heating/air conditioning units in the facility. Moved by Mrs. Irey, seconded by Mr. Namie, approving the bills for the month of August, 2000. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and made a part hereof.) At this time an Executive Session was held for the purpose of discussing a personnel issue. The Board reconvened. NEW BUSINESS Commissioner Irey commended the personnel at the correctional facility for becoming certified trainers and taking a lead in performing an in-house program whereby training for correctional officers is conducted at the correctional facility. Warden Pelzer noted this cuts down on costs related to traveling to the Department of Corrections at Camp Hill for this training.
