HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM - Meeting Minutes - 1-P-01 - 1-24-2001 - PRISON BOARDMINUTE BOOK PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA Minute No. 1-P-01 Washington County Prison Board M Washington, PA, January 24, 2001 E j The Annual Reorganization and monthly meeting of the Washington County Prison Board was held in the 7"' v Floor Conference Room, Courthouse Square, Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present: a M Commissioners John P. Bevec, Diana L. Irey and J. Bracken Burns, Sr.; Judge Gilmore; District Attorney John Pettit; E O cc Controller Paul Belcastro and Sheriff Maggi. Also being present: Warden Joe Pelzer; Cathi Kresh, Director of a Administration; Michelle Miller, Director of Human Resources; Solicitor Richard DiSalle; Linda Belcher, Secretary; Judy Chestnut, Observer -Reporter, Jim Jefferson, WJPA and Richard Brezenski and Dave Howard, Correctional 0 Officers at the Jail. Chairman Bevec called the meeting to order at approximately 11:35 a.m. and entertained nominations for Chairman, Vice -Chairman and Secretary. Moved by Mr. Bevec, seconded by Mrs. Irey, to retain John Pettit as Chairman, J. Bracken Burns as Vice - Chairman and Paul Belcastro as Secretary for 2001. It was noted officers will remain the same as 2000. MEETING DATES AND TIMES It was the consensus of the Board that the Prison Board meet at 11:30 a.m. on the dates listed below which coincide with the same week of a bi-weekly meeting of the Board of Commissioners: January 24 July 25 February 21 August 22 March 21 (Jail) September 19 (Jail) April 18 October 17 May 16 November 14 June 27 (Jail) December 12 (Jail) APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Bevec asked if there were any corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No. 12-P-00, dated December 20, 2000. Moved by Mrs. Irey, seconded by Mr. Bevec, that Minute No. 12-P-00 be approved. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". WARDEN'S REPORT Warden Pelzer presented the following information to the Board: Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for December, 2000: Other Counties (Fayette and Greene) $ 1,240.00 U. S. Marshall 7,200.00 Administrative Fee 1,227.97 Monthly Sub Total 9,667.97 Year to date GRAND TOTAL $ 237,347.47 'grogram Fees and Room and Board Income for the Month of December, 2000: Billed Collected Work Release/Home Detention $ 7,685.00 $ 7,550.00 Weekenders $ 1,525.00 $ 1,525.00 MINUTE BOOK PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA Turned over to Clerk of Courts (Minus) -0- Adjustments made to billings (Minus) -0- Monthly Sub -Total $ 9,209.27 $ 9075.00 Year to date GRAND TOTAL $125,835.27 $125,857.27 Status of prisoners confined at the end of December, 2000: MALES FEMALES TOTAL Full Time 58 6 64 Work Release 35 3 38 Weekend prisoners 13 4 17 Home Detention Program 0 0 0 Unsentenced prisoners Awaiting sentencing and/or trial 110 15 125 TOTAL PRISONERS 216 28 244 MALES FEMALES TOTAL Examir-itions performed by the physician 135 27 162 New commitments 34 Repeat patients 128 Medical Transports performed by the Sheriff 5 Moved by Mrs. Irey, seconded by Mr. Belcastro, accepting the Warden's Report as per above. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". BILLS Controller Belcastro presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills for the month of December, 2000, in the amount of $63,109.80. Moved by Mr. Belcastro, seconded by Mr. Bevec, approving the bills for the month of December, 2000. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and made a part hereof.) OLD BUSINESS Chairman Pettit requested the Board call an Executive Session to discuss an ongoing personnel issue. (Chairman Pettit left the Executive Session at approximately 12:45 p.m.) Meeting reconvened at approximately 1:15 p.m. There being no further business, Vice -Chairman Burns declared the meeting adjourned at approximately 1:20 p.m. THE FOREGOING MINRTES SUBMITTED FOR APPROVAL: ►1 SECRETARY , 2001 1 0 1
