Washington County Prison Board
Washington, PA, January 16, 2002
The Annual Reorganization and monthly meeting of the Washington County Prison Board was held in the 7tn
Floor Conference Room, Courthouse Square, Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present:
Commissioners John P. Bevec, Diana L. Irey and J. Bracken Burns, Sr.; Controller Michael Namie; and Sheriff Larry
Maggi. Absent being: District Attorney Pettit and Judge David Gilmore. Also being present: Warden Joe Pelzer;
Cathi Kresh, Administrator/Chief Clerk; Richard DiSalle, Solicitor; Michelle Miller, Director of Human Resources;
Linda Belcher, Administrative Assistant; John Rheel, Chief Deputy Sheriff; Linda Metz, Observer -Reporter, Jim
Jefferson, WJPA; and Denise Johnston Simmons, interested citizen.
Vice -Chairman Burns called the meeting to order at approximately 11:40 a.m. and entertained nominations for
Chairman, Vice -Chairman and Secretary.
2002.
Moved by Mr. Bevec, seconded by Mrs. Irey, to nominate Mr. Pettit as Chairman of the Prison Board for the

Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye".
Moved by Mr. Bevec, seconded by Mrs. Irey, to nominate Commissioner Burns as Vice -Chairman of the Prison
Board for the year 2002.
Moved by Mr. Bevec, seconded by Mrs. Irey, to close nominations for Vice -Chairman of the Prison Board.
Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye".
Moved by Mr. Bevec, seconded by Mrs. Irey, to nominate Mr. Namie as Secretary of the Prison Board for the
year 2002.
Moved by Mr. Bevec, seconded by Mrs. Irey, to close nominations for Secretary for the Prison Board.
Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye".
MEETING DATES AND TIMES
It was the consensus of the Board that the Prison Board meet at 11:30 a.m. on the dates listed below which
coincide with the same week of a bi-weekly meeting of the Board of Commissioners:

Vice -Chairman Burns asked if there were any corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No. 12-P-01, dated
December 12, 2001.

Moved by Mr. Bevec, seconded by Mrs. Irey, that Minute No. 12-P-01 be approved. Motion carried •
unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye".
WARDEN'S REPORT
Warden Pelzer presented the following information to the Board:
Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for December, 2001:

Moved by Mrs. Irey, seconded by Mr. Bevec, accepting the Warden's Report as per above. Motion
carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye".
At this time, Vice -Chairman Burns recognized Ms. Denise Johnston Simmons who came to the meeting to
discuss with Warden Pelzer an incident that happened involving her step -son and would talk to Mr. Pelzer after the
meeting.
BILLS
Controller Namie presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills for the
month of December, 2001, in the amount of $487224.40. •
Moved by Mr. Namie, seconded by Mr. Bevec, approving the bills for the month of December, 2001. Motion
carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and
made a part hereof.)
There being no further business, Vice -Chairman Burns declared the meeting adjourned at approximately 11:50
