PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA
Minute No. 6-P-02
Washington County Prison Board
Washington, PA, June 19, 2002
The regular monthly meeting of the Washington County Prison Board was held in the Washington County
Correctional Facility, Cherry Way, Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present:
Commissioners John P. Bevec and J. Bracken Burns, Sr.; District Attorney John Pettit; Controller Michael Namie and
Sheriff Larry Maggi. Absent being: Commissioner Diana L. Irey and Judge David Gilmore. Also being present:
Warden Joe Pelzer; Cathi Kresh, Administrator/Chief Clerk; Richard DiSalle, Solicitor; Michelle Miller, Director of
Human Resources; Linda Belcher, Administrative Assistant; Brock McCandless, intern; Chief Deputy John Rheel;
Linda Ritzer, Observer -Reporter and Stacey Wolford, Valley Independent.
Chairman Pettit called the meeting to order at approximately 12:05 p.m. and asked if there were any
corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No. 5-P-02, dated May 15, 2002.
Moved by Mr. Bevec, seconded by Mr. Maggi, approving Minute No. 5-P-02 as written.
Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye".
WARDEN'S REPORT
Warden Pelzer presented the following information to the Board:
Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for Mav, 2002:

U. S. Immigration 400.00
Administrative Fee 2,663.82
Monthly Sub Total 6,713.82

Moved by Mr. Bevec, seconded by Mr. Maggi, accepting the Warden's Report as per above. Motion
carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye".
BILLS
Controller Namie presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills for May, 2002 in the
amount of $60,674.04.
Moved by Mr. Namie, seconded by Mr. Bevec, approving the bills for the month of May, 2002. Motion carried
unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and made a part
hereof.)
NEW BUSINESS
Warden Pelzer informed Board members that the GED Program at the Correctional Facility recently had ten
inmates take the GED test and reported nine passed the test. Warden Pelzer noted there have been a total of fifty GED
diplomas that have been issued since the opening of the Correctional Facility.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Chairman Pettit called an Executive Session to discuss a personnel issue regarding a decision pertaining to an
employee at the Correctional Facility. It was noted Attorney Daniel Iler was present to represent his client, the
employee involved in the personnel issue, who was not able to attend the meeting due to surgery.
Meeting reconvened.
Chairman Pettit informed Attorney Iler the Board would like his client to attend the next scheduled meeting of
the Prison Board on July 17, 2002.
Chairman Pettit noted a decision regarding the personnel issue has not been made at this time and will be
discussed at the next meeting.
There being no further business, Chairman Pettit declared the meeting adjourned at approximately
12:30 p.m.
