Minute No. 8-P-02
Washington County Prison Board •
Washington, PA, August 15, 2002
The regular monthly meeting of the Washington County Prison Board was held in the 7th Floor Conference
Room, Courthouse Square, Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present: Commissioners
John P. Bevec, Diana L. Irey and J. Bracken Burns, Sr.; District Attorney John Pettit; Controller Michael Namie.
Absent being: Judge David Gilmore. Also being present: Warden Joe Pelzer; Cathi Kresh, Administrator/Chief Clerk;
Richard DiSalle, Solicitor; Michelle Miller Kotula, Director of Human Resources; Linda Belcher, Administrative
Assistant; Linda Ritzer, Observer -Reporter; Stacey Wolford, Valley Independent and Randy Gore, intern for WJPA.
Chairman Pettit called the meeting to order at approximately 11:40 a.m. and asked if there were any
corrections, additions or omissions to Minute No. 7-P-02, dated July 24, 2002.
Moved by Mr. Bevec, seconded by Mrs. Irey, approving Minute No. 7-P-02 as written.
Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye".
WARDEN'S REPORT
Warden Pelzer presented the following information to the Board:
Income from other units for the maintenance of brisoners for Julv, 2002:

Administrative Fee 2,330.43
Social Security 800.00
Monthly Sub Total 7,480.43

Moved by Mrs. Irey, seconded by Mr. Bevec, accepting the Warden's Report as per above. Motion
carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye".
BILLS
Controller Namie presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills for July, 2002 in the
amount of $75,447.42.
Moved by Mr. Bevec, seconded by Mr. Burns, approving the bills for the month of July, 2002. Motion carried
unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and made a part
hereof.)

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Chairman Pettit called an executive session to discuss a personal issue regarding a Correctional Officer at the
Chairman Pettit reconvened the meeting and noted discussion was held regarding a personal matter and as a
result of that discussion, Warden Pelzer recommended Correctional Officer Susan Flowers be terminated from her
employment at the facility for violation of the county's drug policy.
Moved by Mrs. Irey, seconded by Mr. Maggi, approving the recommendation of Warden Pelzer to terminate
Correctional Officer Susan Flowers as per above.
Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by the show of hands and stating "Aye".
There being no further business, Chairman Pettit declared the meeting adjourned at approximately
12:30 p.m.
