Minute No. 9-P-03
Washington County Prison Board
Washington, PA, September 18, 2003
The Washington County Prison Board was held at the Washington County Correctional Facility, Cherry Way,
Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present: Commissioners John P. Bevec, Diana L. Irey
and J. Bracken Burns, Sr.; District Attorney John Pettit; Sheriff Larry Maggi and Controller Michael Namie. Absent
being: Judge Debbie O'Dell Seneca. Also being present: Cathi Kresh, Administrator/Chief Clerk; Mary Friedline;
Assistant Solicitor; Janice Urban, Human Resources; Linda Belcher, Administrative Assistant; John Rheel, Sheriffs
Office; Warden Joe Pelzer and John Temas, Deputy Warden; Linda Metz, Observer -Reporter and Stacey Wolford,
Valley Independent.
Chairman Pettit called the meeting to order at approximately 12:05 p.m. and entertained a motion to approve
Minute No. 8-P-03.
Moved by Mrs. Irey, seconded by Mr. Bevec, approving Minute No. 8-P-03 as written. Motion carried
unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye".
WARDEN'S REPORT
Warden Pelzer presented the following information to the Board:
Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for August, 2003:

U. S. Marshall 6,606.92
Administrative Fee 3,104.46
Monthly Sub Total 11,211.38

Moved by Mrs. Irey, seconded by Mr. Burns, accepting the Warden's Report as per above. Motion carried
unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye".
BILLS
Controller Namie presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills for the
month of August, 2003 in the amount of $51,215.52.
Moved by Mr. Namie, seconded by Mr. Bevec, approving the bills for the month of August, 2003. Motion
carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and
made a part hereof.)
OLD BUSINESS
None
NEW BUSINESS
Controller Namie reported to the Board that the audit of the correctional facility has been completed and noted
There were no findings or comments. He commented the staff did a fine job this year.
Warden Pelzer introduced Tom Schlager, Inspection Supervisor of the Pennsylvania Department of
Corrections, who presented the Prison Board and Washington County Correctional Facility with a letter of
commendation and plaque recognizing Washington County Correctional Facility as one of only eleven county facilities
in
the state to have earned a Certificate of Compliance in 2003. Mr. Schlager stated that the combined commitment of the
Board of Commissioners, the Prison Board and the staff at the facility towards attaining this outstanding
accomplishment is most commendable.
Warden Pelzer also thanked the Commissioners, Prison Board and his staff for their continued support in
operating the correctional facility.
The Board congratulated Warden Pelzer and his staff for a job well done.
There being no further business, Chairman Pettit declared the meeting adjourned at approximately
12:15 p.m.
