HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMM - Meeting Minutes - 4-P-07 - 4-18-2007 - PRISON BOARDMINUTE BOOK . 315 PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA Minute No. 4-P-07 Washington County Prison Board z E Washington, PA, April 18, 2007 0 LL The Washington County Prison Board met in the 71" floor conference Room, Courthouse Square Office vBuilding, Washington, Pennsylvania, with the following members being present: Commissioners Larry Maggi, Bracken aBurns and Diana Irey; President Judge Debbie O'Dell Seneca; and Controller Michael Namie. Absent being; Sheriff Sam Romano and District Attorney John Pettit. Also being present: Warden Joe Pelzer; Scott Fergus, Director of Administration; Mary Helicke, Chief Clerk; Lynn DeHaven, Solicitor; Linda Belcher, Administrative Assistant; and Barbara Miller, Observer -Reporter. Chairman Maggi called the meeting to order at approximately 11:30 a.m. and entertained a motion to approve Minute No. 3-P-07. Moved by Judge O'Dell Seneca, seconded by Mrs. Irey, approving Minute No. 3-P-07 as written. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". PUBLIC COMMENTS None WARDEN'S REPORT Warden Pelzer presented the following information to the Board: Income from other units for the maintenance of prisoners for March 2007: U S. Marshall $ 1,400.00 Social Security 800.00 Administrative Fee 2,601.20 Monthly Sub Total 4,801.20 Year to date GRAND TOTAL $ 14,012.50 Program Fees and Room and Board Income for March 2007, Billed Collected Work Release/Home Detention $16,308.39 $16,664.39 Weekenders $ 2,495.00 $ 2,495.00 Turned over to Clerk of Courts (Minus) -0- Adjustments made to billings (Minus) -0- Monthly Sub -Total $18,803.39 $19,159.39 Year to date GRAND TOTAL $ 50,513.50 $50,950.50 Status of prisoners confined at the end of March 2007, MALES FEMALES TOTAL Full Time 75 12 87 Work Release 46 1 47 Weekend prisoners 11 5 16 Unsentenced prisoners Awaiting sentencing and/or • trial 146 33 179 TOTAL PRISONERS 278 51 329 MALES FEMALES TOTAL Examinations performed by the physician 105 54 159 New commitments 52 Repeat patients 107 316 MINUTE BOOK PRISON BOARD WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA Medical transports performed by the Sheriff 6 Moved by Mrs. Irey, seconded by Judge O'Dell Seneca, accepting the Warden's Report as per above. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". BILLS Controller Namie presented to the Board for their consideration and approval the bills for the month of March 2007 in the amount of $87,645.98. Moved by Mr. Namie, seconded by Mrs. Irey, approving the bills for the month of March 2007. Motion carried unanimously by the Board signifying their approval by stating "Aye". (See list of bills attached hereto and made a part hereof.) OLD BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Warden Pelzer informed the Board that a former inmate, John Liggett, who scored high on the high school diploma equivalency test will be recognized next month by the state Department of Education in Harrisburg. He noted since the program started at the correctional facility in 1997 there have been 89 inmates who have received their GED.
